what are some gimmicky things for the NES you can remember that may have sounded cool at the time but were really just horrible and an easy cash grab?

How about The speed board!

Controller not included. What a fucking load of bull shit. I bet this piece of plastic cost $44.99 when it went to retail.

I got a DDR pad for my GameCube one birthday, tried it that day with the friends that were over. Never worked once.

Gotta admit R.O.B. sucked. He ate your AA batteries and was only good for 1 game, of course I'm talking about Gyromite. There were other games designed for ROB, but good luck finding them in your local stores.

Nintendo would throw this poster in with some of their games, but it was just a big tease because I could never find half of these titles in stores. Actually my entire NES library came about from whatever was available at the time, and not what I was actually looking for.

So yeah, ROB sucked as an NES peripheral, but his spinning tops and motor were pretty cool so I'd use him just to spin tops into He-Men. And Skeletors. I didn't go in much for the GI Joes.

Quoted for truth, also, whatever my parents saw was available.
