So much more than war...
By shandog137
Posted on 04/18/14
The recent blog, Peace in the Era of Call of Duty  really made me think about war games that dig deeper than simply a kill streak reward. The first game that came to mind was Spec-Ops: The Line and although I haven’t played it, I began to wonder if it did the war genre as...

So i've been taking some classes on Wellfullness and meditation (great way to meet Asain girls Matt, just an FYI) and we do alot of "living in the now". Of course I'm a very philosophical person so I go off on a tangent and by the end of it I'm usually off topic and the class laughs (or giggles, you know what I'm talkin about Matt) because I've caught myself going on about free will when we're just supposed to be talking about our present lives.

Anyways for today's homework I'm supposed to let myself become inspired by those around me. Who better then you guys right? ......uh, right?

Sooooo whadda ya got that's inspiring?

Who you are is determined by what you have done.
Who you will be is determine by what you do now.

My good friend Wicked, "Hardship offers an ordinary person an extraordinary destiny"............>fart<

Maybe check out the New Year's Resolution thread? See if anyone's resolutions spark anything you'd like?

Also - Rain's tip topic is brilliant! Full of inspiration! If you cant find anything useful in there I dont know!

Errrrmmm...I can direct you to some Asian porn if you like?

I acted in high school theater and loved every minute of it, walked away from it while I was in college because I went the tough guy route (which got me chicks and respect, but the novelty of that wore off after I left the college atmosphere). Now I'm back to acting/VOs - and even if I don't "make it" I think I've found a really fulfilling hobby.

Ugh.. you have a Karaoke box in your home? We need to hang out.

Also, dont we have a thread somewhere about GR extracurriculars like knitting, painting, gaming, etc..?

No, that was at my dad's apartment. He lives in a fantasy world.

I echo this. You can go anywhere and do anything. It might be a difficult path, but if you try things you never know what'll happen next.

Heh heh heh (I did take what you two said seriously).

Ugh, I am deeply inspired by your karaoke. More than you'll ever know, just ask Brett....

Urbz, yeah we have those threads but since the whole idea is to live in the now I was wondering what inspiring thing you could do or say right now. But if a day comes where we were to ever meet I'm sure it would be glorious. Like Danny Glover and Mel Gibson before Gibson lost his marbles.

I hope you find this little story inspiring. Razz

I guess to nutshell my story - I used to be overweight and lazy, weighed over 280 pounds (128 kg) over four years ago. I went to a friend's party, got beat up by two big wankers for no reason. I felt like shit about it so I wanted to learn a martial art for self defence. I took up Judo and from training I ended up losing weight, which was awesome as I wasn't really expecting to, or wanting to, I just wanted to learn martial arts.

I lost 70 pounds (32 kg) In 9 months and I pretty much completely forgot why I took up Judo to begin with. Over four years later I still train in Judo, I've maintained my weight, improved my physique and fitness with gym work, I compete in Judo competitions and when needed, I assist in coaching kids. Smile

I am not "thanking" those wankers from the party, they're horrible people, but what I am thankful for is being able to take a negative situation and channel it into a positive one.

I haven't seen them ever since that night. I doubt they would recognise me, as back then I was again very overweight, had very long hair, messy facial hair and wore dark shaggy clothing where as now I am a lot leaner, short hair, clean shaven and wear nicer clothes. They probably wouldn't recognise me. Somehow I doubt they've changed as well.

If I did see them again, there is a part of me that would want to have a go at them, it would be tempting. But most of me would probably say no and just ignore them or try to leave.

I do actually. I made this a while ago to post on a blog but I never ended up doing it. I hate doing "bathroom selfies" but I did it here.

On the left is me back in late 2008, when I was weighing 128kg (280ish pounds), when I was SUPER FAT.

On the right is me last year in 2012, weighing 97kg (213 pounds). I pretty much look exactly the same as the picture on the right but I weigh 103kg now (227 pounds) 'cuz of more gym work. I also love my Mario shirt and need more like it.

Damn that's impressive.

I used to do heavy workouts at the gym several times a week for a couple of years.

I weighed and looked almost the exact same.

My body is weird.
