I have and will continue to have a place in my heart for Nintendo. In fact, my first console was a Super Nintendo. The video game market has changed drastically since the early '90s and it seems like what once was platinum is more so along the lines of silver now. Nintendo has always been...

So, now that this is free for all PSN+ members, who wants to play? We could do a playdate, or Dan can stream it!

Very Happy

You talking about for black tendency on the ramparts? It's embarassing to say but I literally spent 6+ hours on that area one night. I was absolutely determined to get passed it.

I remember the first time friends came over to see the game, and then watched me plink arrows into that dang dragon until it died. They were not impressed until they watched me get stunlocked by chubby Cthulhu and flying angry manta rays.

I'd love to see a stream just for the schadenfreude, especially if the player is new to this fresh hell. Also, worse area: Valley of Defilement or Blighttown? Tower of Latria or those archers in Anor Londo?

Valley of Defilement and Tower of Latria are far better, due to framerate and less bullshit. And while Blighttown is completely skippable, you can just as easily run like a motherfucker straight through 5-1 or 5-2.

I know, I've done it as an SL1 Royalty to get the spells.

True, although that is rarely how I went through it, purely because I was terrified of those giant goblins near the last island before the fog gate in 5-2. What I wouldn't have given for the rusted ring in DeS.

5-1 and 5-2 seemed like Megaman levels, wherein the bosses were often pitifully easy compared to the slog that the levels were.

It was actually pretty well done, I think, in terms of boss difficulty in proportion to level difficulty. If it's possible to shortcut straight to the end of the level, the boss is hard. If not, the boss is super easy.

I'm downloading it now but I know nothing of this game except that it's a hard action game. And I suck balls at hard action games like DMC 3 and Ninja Gaiden so you may need to hold my hand through it.

The good news is...it's nothing like those games. It's slow, methodical and punishing.

Those games are like "haha! see how fast i killed you?" Demon's/Dark Souls are "i killed you and i'm gonna keep killing you until you figure out why."

Yeah, those games are all about combos and speed. This is about learning and timing. It's half Castlevania, half speed chess, and half magic.

Pyro is a hell of a lot easier in Dark Souls, at least in the beginning, btw. Just saying I've been chipping away but of course I get distracted and have to relearn everything all over again.

still much faster.

If you need an easy class to play, Royal.

Of course, if you want to be a man, do Soldier or Knight. Those are the best.

Quick rundown for those greatly frustrated:

-For DeS beginners, Royal is the best starting class, since you start with a ranged spell and a ring that regenerates MP.
-You cannot level up until you beat the first boss, Phalanx. The skeletons in 4-1 (Archstone of the Shadowmen) are the best early spot to grind out souls IMO, plus, they hit hard enough you have to learn to dodge/parry/block quickly.
-4-1 also has a great early weapon and shield, the Crescent Falchion and Adjudicator Shield, if you can brave some scary enemies.
-Rings are your friend, especially the Thief Ring.
-Tower of Latria and Valley of Defilement are probably best left for after you are comfortable with controls and builds.
-Be paranoid, and LISTEN. Most enemies have idle noises, or make them once they go notice you.

That said, I agree with Longo insofar as manly mode is to ignore my advice and roll with a Soldier or Knight. Temple Knight in a pinch.

I love games that are challenging. Then again, I got pissed off before when facing some of the colossi in Shadow of the Colossus.

It's not that bad. If you run in like I AM AN UNSTOPPABLE FORCE! you're going to die. But death isn't THAT big of a deal.
