Someone at IGN must have been on drugs when they wrote this.

This also is not real underclocking, Its playing a game that your pc can barely run.

I ran Fallout 3 with a:

AMD 1800+ XP single core
Geforce 7800 GS
2 gigs of RAM
and a shit ton of mods. It didn't exactly crash and was playable but I much rather run it with the rig that I have now.

I've also ran Oblivion on a GeForce FX 5700 and it look like Morrowind but with physics.

I do this every day with my laptop.

Fucking GTA: Vice City lags on this thing.
Hence my recent GoG spending splurges.
Alpha Centauri runs nice.

Did this with my older, more powerful laptop.
Note that even though it was more powerful, it ran at 20FPS unless i was using litebright.

The power difference between my laptop and my desktop is ridiculous. Emulated Wind Waker at 4x internal resolution, anti-aliased while a 720p music video plays on the other screen?
Lol, challenge me you pussy.

Meanwhile, my laptop can just manage DS games.
Delicious haswell laptop soon.
