Finally Broke My Crowdfunding Rule
By oblivion437
Posted on 01/12/15
I've had a long-standing rule to avoid getting involved in any sort of crowdfunded activities.  I didn't donate to Shadowrun or Wasteland, but I did buy and enjoy both of them (I'm plugging both of those games right now, just so you know they're good).  I haven't...

So I think we can all agree that the Summer Sale on Xbox Live worked pretty well and got me to actually believe the company can compete with Steam as a digital distributor, but what next?

Steam has daily deals, weekend deals, and continues to push their third-party partners to make deeper and deeper cuts as software grows older. If Microsoft can seriously compete with next-gen Xbox One digital sales and incentives to go digital, I might seriously consider switching to all digital completely.

All the special edition crap just stacks up in piles around my house, the games never get played after the initial run, and I just see physical medium games come on as transient and without value.

Seeing as we've all started downloading games in one way or another (iOS, Android, Steam, DLC, downloadable titles) will you go all digital on Xbox One?

Some games screw you over on collectors edition only ingame items while the highest digital package doesn't have them.

Give me all pre-order and CE benefits through digital. I will buy digital every time.

Do I think microsoft should go all digital? Only if they make it so you could still play your games offline. Steam allows you to play games in offline-mode.

Yeah if the game is on your hard drive, you should be able to play it without internet. You basically installed it, it's not like you're streaming.

And that's a really good point. I don't care about the goodies so long as going digital still gets me any DLC or in-game bonuses.

I don't know, it's like Digital represents a lot less clutter, but then I like having games lined up on my shelf too.

There's a good chance I go all-digital. Especially with the right mix of incentives.

The Xbox Marketplace should be in direct competition with Steam. Sales, gifting, etc.
