Posted on 01/12/15
I've had a long-standing rule to avoid getting involved in any sort of crowdfunded activities.  I didn't donate to Shadowrun or Wasteland, but I did buy and enjoy both of them (I'm plugging both of those games right now, just so you know they're good).  I haven't...

He calls this a good time to retire.

I seriously wonder if this will result in any real changes at the company.

It means there will be fewer developer jokes in the future of Microsoft.

He's not out yet, he's still sticking around for 12 months.

He's smart enough to know that this is the time to GTFO. With Google becoming more and more powerful and Windows 8s fucking the ENTIRE PC industry, not just MS themselves, microsoft is doomed. Google will probably launch a new version of ChromeOS in 2015 and have it adopted by a bunch of laptop manufacturers who saw their sales plummet because of Win8.

That means their PC OS domination is going to start failing, while their mobile OS is a piece of crap used by nobody and the xbone can't prop up an entire company by itself, especially with how Sony is set to win this generation again.

Thus, leave now, cash in stock options, sit back on your private 747 and watch the fireworks.

No, he's not sticking around for another year. His statement said sometime in the next 12 months, so it could be next month for all we know.

My guess is that they try to keep him through the holiday season so as to keep things stable through their new console release.

Balmer decision on his retire as Microsoft CEO was final but he didn't give exact date. There are also rumors about list of potential candidates that can be his successor.
