Finally Broke My Crowdfunding Rule
By oblivion437
Posted on 01/12/15
I've had a long-standing rule to avoid getting involved in any sort of crowdfunded activities.  I didn't donate to Shadowrun or Wasteland, but I did buy and enjoy both of them (I'm plugging both of those games right now, just so you know they're good).  I haven't...

Now i know some of us drool over the 4k resolution monitors but being a pc gamer since the 90s I have always loved high refresh rates. I used to play the original unreal tournament on a 120hz CRT. I now play on a 120hz LED.

Here is Asus with their new 144HZ LED 1080p monitor!

$270

I wonder how little of a difference 120-144hz will be. You start getting diminishing returns the higher you go. 120hz to 240hz will not have as dramatic of a effect as 60hz to 120hz.

I absolutely want a 4k monitor in the future but don't think I want to really give up the higher refresh.

Another interesting monitor

The LG 29EA93-P/ 21:9 aspect ratio. I really like this monitor but its only 60hz.

Asus 4k monitor gets reviewed. 4k at 60hz is damn sexy.

Good luck getting 144 frames at 1080p with new games. The next step for vsync at 144hz is 72fps so it is still better than a 60hz monitor. Better than a 120hz monitor if you can't get a constant 120fps with games too.

There's probably some games that can do 144hz, although yeah they'd be few and far between.
Hell, look at reviews of quad-SLI titans and laugh at some of the games topping out at 90FPS.

Which makes me chuckle at the idea of people doing any 4K gaming right now, especially on the next gen consoles.
