Finally Broke My Crowdfunding Rule
By oblivion437
Posted on 01/12/15
I've had a long-standing rule to avoid getting involved in any sort of crowdfunded activities.  I didn't donate to Shadowrun or Wasteland, but I did buy and enjoy both of them (I'm plugging both of those games right now, just so you know they're good).  I haven't...

Step 1.) Tear apart your PC and scavenge for parts
Step 2.) Cut up an old USB cable and twist the wires together, then duct tape
Step 3.) Break apart an old PS2 game case to prop some things up, such as the blu-ray drive and a 120mm LED fann

And all your problems are now solved.

Fuck you Gran Turismo 6

Good sir, Do you not own a soldering iron?

Other then that does it stop your overheating issue?
I took my super slim apart when I got it and applied new thermal paste. I haven't had any heat issues.

The last time I tried DIY PS3 enhancements, I broke that infernal ribbon cable clip, resulting in weeks of pain and suffering, not to mention the amount of money I wasted trying to get a cheap replacement system.

Had my modification worked, it would've had an external fan mounted to its bottom, through a hole I sawed into it. So basically, a lot like yours, except prettier.

You know what's even worse than Australia? The license tests in Gran Turismo 6. I just did five races where I kicked ass. I don't need to prove that I can go around a fucking corner to advance.

I've run 80wrms daily for about 8 months through twisted speaker wire before, it works fine. Couldn't be arsed soldering something so simple.

Doesn't stop the overheating, but it delays it a good 15 minutes. That power supply gets so insanely fucking hot that just by keeping it cool the entire thing runs much better.
Would probably work better if the fan was running on 12v, but i don't feel like chopping into a 12v adapter for what is a temporary solution.

I'm doing the 19 blade fan and re-doing the thermal paste soon. Apparently it's already had paste done in the past, but might as well re-do it.
Also be drilling a couple intake holes in the bottom for the fan and modifying the top case so that the power supply actually breathes, and then my PC fan can do something else.

Gran Turismo 6 and The Last of Us are pains in my ass. Flashlight on the TLOU and the night stages on GT6 make my PS3 burn.

I've found one benefit of having it like this.
The touch sensitive buttons work a hell of a lot better without the plastic in the way.

The license tests have always been shit in Gran Turismo. Luckily so far i've been able to gold all of them (occasionally after like 20 tries, for dat free car) but i've only done the first 3. Expecting them to get real bad real fast from previous experience.

At least with GT6 there's a lot less tests than there used to be and they seem a lot easier too.

That's pretty cool. How long did the entire process take you? If it keep that PS3 phat limping along, that's all that counts I guess.

Pretty crazy, madster. That's impressive.

My "Australian summer" involves... a lot of rain and the complete opposite of what summer is supposed to be. Thank you Northern Territory.
