This game... no, this gem just got released half a week ago and it only cost 8 bucks on steam. I got it yesterday night and i can tell you, it is awesome!

So what's FTL you say? Well let me tell you what it's not. It's not a shooter, it's not a space RPG, it's not strategy game. It's a space ship simulator in a Sci-fi world.

You are a space ship commander from the space federation. You duty is to patrol the infinite space and bring order to the system. As you travel your journey, you'll meet rebels, pirates, rogue soldiers and aliens of all shape and forms. To overcome all these obstacles you will need to upgrade your ship, hire crew members of all race and backgrounds (like a freaking parasite that slithers on the ground!) and form alliances from the nastiest of space creatures.
But my favorite feature, is the customization of your crew members. I started to give them personalities of my own in my head as i was playing the game.

Just yesterday, captain dynomite (a black motherf***er who won't take it from the man, can ya dig?), my two lesbian engineers and my warrior veteran mantis weapon smith ("Mustacho" cause i picture him with a fu man-chu) just down our 10th rebel ship. Our engines were on fire but we open the hatches to depressurize the engine room to calm the fire down. Then my two lesbians risked their lives by holding their breat hand turning the fire down while Captain dynomite and mustacho armed the canons to stop the rebel ship from escaping. We manage to bring medicine to this abandoned colony to bring back into civilization. It was epic!

So... who else is playing FTL and what epic stories ya got to share?

I remember seeing a trailer for this awhile back, and was intrigued. Maybe I'll get it.

Been playing it solidly since it was released on Friday, it's stopping me playing Black Mesa it's that good!

It's a roguelike game. The plot is that as commander of your ship, you found/hold the key to defeating the rebel fleet and as you jump from beacon to beacon, the rebel fleet chase you.

As roguelike, it's procedurally generated, so each playthrough is different. The maps, what stores sell and what happens at each beacon all different.

There are nine ships in total and each ship has two layouts to unlock with different playstyles.

It's damn hard, and death is permament meaning you have to start again. I haven't beaten the final boss yet in about 8 hours of playing (even on easy).

Do you have to play the campaign like a racist, exploitative child, or was that something you personally added in?

What more can i say, the man is black!

But if it'll change your mood a little, i did redo another play through with a commander named slickback (couldn't make it all fit in so i put in (named slickback).

Gotta admit, the cloak is very OP. Still haven't manage to destroy the flagship though but that's mostly cause i keep running out of time... and men (A pimp named slisback, nooooo!). Manage to unlock three ships in the end. Gonna try to recruit nothing but engis this time. I'll see if that'll make things more challenging.

And anyone else got that super rare rock man crew member? He was in a stasis chamber and he was pretty awesome... Too bad the pressure got him even though he had a resistance to emptiness of space. They don't make rocks like they used to, that's for sure.

In that game I had two Mantis and a Rockman that I'd send over to kill everyone on the ship (I was only missing a Slug to get the achievement for 6 different races at the same time). Killing the crew made it easier as it seems like you get more fuel and scrap and you don't have to use missles.

With the flagship, just teleport your guys to the second weapon from the right (as it fires missles) to disable it, and as each weapon is in it's own compartment they can't repair it.

I unlocked the Federation ship and the second Kestral layout on that run through.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm hooked on this game now and am ignoring GW2 too much because of it. Just finally beat it on easy using max energy weapons, shields, and cloak. Need to try a normal game with the new ships and a different strategy now. Damn it!

Took me a while to realize that the new race don't need oxygen... I can still see my crew mates' faces as they gasp for air when i sent them to their ship... the faces... the faces...
They also added a bunch of new command doodahs like saved crew positions and a star line trajectory.

...Did i also mention that expac is free?

It's a 1:1 port. Not lacking any features. The only differences are a little bit of zooming in to fit better, and the game auto-pauses to assist you in a few circumstances, like selecting and moving crew. It even runs great on my old-ass iPad 2.

Only $10 too.
