Sometimes it's a relief to escape the complexity of modern games and fire up a simplistic title that even a zombie could play. Read on to find out if this roguelike is worthwhile.

Retail monitor Chart-Track said the game recorded the highest week one sales for any Wii U title since the console's November 2012 release and the second best launch in the series' history. Mario Kart 8 hardware bundles accounted for 82 per cent of weekly Wii U sales.

Mario Kart 8 debuted at No.2 on the UK all formats all prices chart behind Watch Dogs, which set a new IP sales record and also enjoyed the 17th highest week one sales of any game in the UK.

This is a huge surge of momentum for Nintendo at a time when they need it the most. Going into E3 with such a strong boost in sales and an in demand title puts the big N in a position to turn the tide so long as they don't fumble at E3 as some in the gaming community are predicting they will.

What do you think? Is this the start of a second wind for the struggling Wii U or simply a nice boost with no longevity?

Yup, lots on pressure on this E3 for Nintendo. It needs to be really big for them. I mean fucking HUGE dude. Metroids, Zeldas, new exciting stuff etc.
