Alright, so popular opinion is that this will be very short console generation for Nintendo. There're gonna make some kind of hybrid console or they'll stop making home consoles and just focus on portables, or they'll bring the Game Boy back. SOMETHING. ANYTHING.

What do you see though? Gaze into your crystal ball Ninten-fans and tell me what you see.

I personally see either Game Boy returning with a connection for your TV and a focus on handheld graphics powers or Wii U slowly becoming DS TV in the next generation where 3DS and home console interact a lot and also share games etc. I could see them bundling the two together and offering consumers portable and console licenses on all their first-party games, making them the cheapest option in the eyes of parents.

I still think the WiiDS/UDS makes perfect sense. Also, it won't have 3D. Just a handheld Wii U, that might even be able to play 3DS games as well.

Shoot. Now I want a handheld that plays Gameboy, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, and digital Wii U titles. Call it...the Big Boy.

They can't do a damn thing with home consoles because they fucked up too badly.

What they need to do is bring out the 3DS XLi sooner rather than later. Better speakers, better screens and if possible a little bit more power to make the 3D run smoother combined with a 8/16gb SD card and like $10 eshop credit to get people to actually use it.

New revision of the 2DS, better and a couple bucks cheaper.

Only after they do that (and thus can survive with some actual profit) can we talk about what they need to do to fix the WiiU (spoilers: fuck it off entirely and release a brand new console in 2015).

As much as I love the Wii U and its potential, it's been very disappointing and sad for Nintendo that it's been so unsuccessful. In all fairness, I believe it to be Nintendo's own fault. I don't know about overseas but here in Australia the Wii U was terribly marketed and advertised - it wasn't at all, really. It just wasn't.

Nintendo catered to the casual gamers with the Wii, right? They then decided to go back to hardcore fans/gamers with the Wii U. When the Wii U came out no one of their original casual market knew what the hell it was. "Is it a tablet for your Wii?" people asked, "Is it another toy for the Wii?" "Is it like a DS?"

Due to the lack of advertising and marketing the Wii U had little success in sales, which means developers aren't too keen on developing for it because well... it's unfortunately not making money, which is a huge shame because I would have loved to see a sequel for Zombi U.

I agree with madster. A new 3Ds XLi kinda thing would be awesome and a revised 2Ds would be great too. I've heard people complain about the 2Ds due to its size. Sure, it's technically as big as a 3Ds XL unfolded, but the problem is the 2Ds can't be folded down like a traditional 3Ds, so it lacks that same portability. A revised 2Ds would be great.

I would love to see a more powerful, portable device. Having a Wii U in my hands that will go down that direction? Developing a more powerful hand held console that can play 3Ds games and maybe DS as well, perhaps? Having a Wii U in my hands that doesn't require me to be close to a "mother device" would be amazing.

They could make a 3DS with slightly more power than a Vita if they really wanted, but the question is who would buy it?
Sure, you and me would, but the 3DS' chief market is kids and high college students, neither of which want to fork over $400 on a handheld.

It's not just marketing they stuffed up the WiiU, it's pretty much everything. They made it just as powerful as the current gen consoles - when everyone was starting to talk about the next gen, and it's simply not cheap enough because of that stupid controller. By the time you buy a WiiU and a game, you're now looking at PS4 territory, and if you see the games side by side you're very unlikely to choose the ugly one with no games.

Craig, you can try this. Go to the ebgames website and have a look for the WiiU.
It's not there. You have to drop the 'more' tab down, which means it's included on the list with the Vita, PSP, PS2 and original DS.
That's how bad it is.

Nintendo need to stop production, send out apology letters to everyone and get cracking on making a new console.

It's not hard, either. Simply take the WiiU, change the case up slightly, give the tablet thing a higher resolution screen and then DON'T CALL IT A FUCKING WIIU.
I bet by now whoever came up with the name has been shot or committed suicide.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head in describing Wii U's problem.

Tomorrow with the MK8 bundle is the perfect time to get one IMO...I'm pretty sure I'm getting one at least.

I blame a large part of the Wii Us failure on marketing and advertising.

And I agree with Green Lantern. The MK8 bundle is worth picking up. Really you can't go wrong with any bundle whether it's MK8, Mario Bros or WW. The exclusive library Nintendo has is a lot more enticing than anything on any system right now.

^ You're absolutely right, Lethean. The Wii U's "failure" is really because of how they handled their marketing and advertising.

I'm looking forward to Saturday. That's when Mario Kart 8 is out for us.

And that Game Cube adaptor looks so bad ass... I'm so glad I still have my Wavebird.

If they just had HD with the Wii, then they'd be fine!

I must say, SSBU is getting me pumped for a Wii U. If I hear some solid Zelda Wii U news at E3 I'm sold. I'm been going on an absolute Zelda marathan at the mo.

^ I agree. I really wish the Wii was HD, that would have made a huge difference to overall presentation. Also, I'm super pumped for Super Smash Bros. on both the 3Ds and the Wii U. I'm so excited about the 3Ds version that I'm hoping they have a competition/tournament of some sort at PAX AUS this year.

I'm also looking forward to the next Zelda.
