The only thing that stops the dust is the rain. It’s a sweet reprieve, but there is no middle ground. The land is either as dry as the Betty Ford clinic, or as wet as the ocean floor. Everything can be seen from the ridge overlooking Armadillo as John Marston gently bounces along atop...

Is anyone playing Nioh? Use this thread to discuss it. Spoilers are most likely.

I've been playing it and really enjoying it. Made it to the second region. Running around with light armor, specializing in spears and dual swords. I'm trying out regular swords for now, though.

I really want this game - just waiting for a price cut!
Never picked up a Dark Souls game, but samurais are way cooler so it tickles my fancy!

I'm kinda getting bored of Nioh, to be honest with you. :/

The biggest difference between Dark Souls and Nioh, is how the game is set out. In Dark Souls, you're given a vast world (not quite free roam or Skyrim) where every area is somehow connected, and you'll find new access points, short cuts etc. to find new areas. In later games, they introduce a way to warp to each newly discovered location.

In Nioh however, you're given a world map in which you select where you want to go. Each area you go to is in a sense, its own dungeon, where none of it is linked and a lot of it is optional.

I don't really like that, it makes me lose the sense of wander and discovery, which is what I loved about Dark Souls.

Combat feels a lot faster than Dark Souls, which I kinda like but at the same time, feels awfully repetitive. Equipment drops like crazy, very similar to Diablo. I'm constantly visiting my inventory to look at the crap I just picked up.

To tell you the truth, I guess I'm kinda disappointed... I bought Resident Evil VII (for a heavily discounted price), never finished it and put it down, now I'm starting to feel the same about Nioh?

The world design in Nioh is its biggest issue. It just isn't all that interesting to explore.

Agreed!

Nioh's game play style feels very "arcadey". Nioh takes heavy inspiration from Dark Souls, but the Souls series lacks the repetition that Nioh has. That's because Dark Souls is one big, creative and imaginative world where all areas are somehow linked together, a sorta "Metroidmania", if you would.

Mean while, all of Nioh's areas are selected off a world map, where each area is a self-contained area. You'll also find that different missions will take place in areas you've been to before, which only increases repetition.

I'm not playing Nioh anymore, which is a shame, I traded a bunch of games for it but now ever since I got the Nintendo Switch, Zelda, as well as Horizon Zero Dawn, I've completely lost interest in Nioh. I suspect when my pre-order for Mass Effect: Andromeda comes along, I'll be trading away Nioh.

Technically, Nioh does somewhat the expense of its long period of development. At the base envisaged like a project destined to the PS3, the title unloads today exclusively on PS4. It displays in this sense a visual rendering in halftone with a modeling of the environments that one feels a little to the trail.
