After all these years, and growing up with Windows 3.1, I have seen an entire evolution of computers and software. Touch screens and large resolutions were a pipe dream just 15 years ago. Now it's the norm. Going from a Packard Bell (yes, before HP) that couldn't run 3D Ultra Mini...

I have a maximum $300 budget, but less is better.

I'll do some research once I'm home and can look at good deals, but still any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

R9 280X, preferably Vapor-X but more or less anything else with 3 fans.
Go on ebay and you can pick one up for around $170-180us, does 1080p in everything on a mix of high/ultra.
Downside is you need a decent strength PSU, i'd say 650 or even higher.

Otherwise R9 380X (<$250) or GTX 970 ($300)

I'd say either a R9 390 or GTX 970 if you'll be gaming at 1080P.

I didn't see that there was a thread just like this, but it looks like the GTX 970 is my man.

I don't understand hardware at all, but there should be few problems going from AMD to Nvidia, right?

Here is a tool that will help you completely remove all driver stuff. With this you shouldn't have problems

Aww, it sold out already.

Oh well, I'll keep an eye out for deals for this stuff. If I have any questions, I'll ask you guys.

On that note: is this one just as good?

And thanks again.

I need a new graphics card too. The bloody price range for the Nvidia 970 series is still at $500. Been waiting since June. Sad

$299 for a strix 970
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121899

$310 for EVGA 970. I would say $10 more for a better warranty is probably worth it.

Nvidia just lowered the price on all 900 series cards the other day but it looks like they were soo popular that they sold out quick.

Green_Lantern's right. Prices suck down here. Our dollar also currently sucks, so buying from America will be equally as expensive, perhaps more so.

sad craig

The ASUS GeForce GTX970 Sourdeez suggested isn't listed as $310, I'm seeing it for $381.89, which is $528.41 AUD.

In Australia, we can buy the same card for $509.

Goddamn we get ripped off.
