Ten Things You Didn't Know About Super Mario Bros.

I don't normally spend a lot of time perusing the Orange County Weekly, but this great article was brought to my attention.
For example, did you know that the graphics for the clouds and the bushes are the same, just differently colored?
How about the juicy nugget that Mario is named after Nintendo's American landlord, Mario Seagale? Now that's a pretty awesome claim to fame, Duke Nukem is named after me, of course.
Also it turns out that Shigeru Miyamoto was inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Mushrooms that make you grow, anyone?
Or that Mario wears overalls so you could see his arm animations better in 8-bit graphics?
Alright, so i knew a few of these beforehand, like the minus world glitch, but it's still a great list.

Going to Lucasarts, hanging with Peter Molyneux, meeting the guys from Penny Arcade and getting some random interviews with folks on the convention floor. read more...

It's Thursday and I'm starting to wonder how I'm still alive after going to five, count'em, five parties last night. Including Tell Tale's shindig at the Cartoon Art Museum which had a killer Batman exhibit going on. This is a shot of a piece from the old Bat-Manga comic of the 60's. Gotta love the fro on Robin. read more...

GDC10 kicks off this week and before the convention even officially starts we're already up to our ears in meetings. Nick and I met up with some Aussie developers and got to see a lovely rainbow that just happened to end right at the Moscone Center, where GDC just happens to be held. read more...
