Blind Man Terry Garrett Is Conquering Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Posted on Monday, September 26 @ 08:32:59 Eastern by
We've covered the extraordinary talents and resilience of blind man Terry Garrett before with his awesome run of bit.Trip Runner. Of course, that game has linear 2D levels and sound effects that make it easier for players to memorize it. Zelda: Ocarina of Time is hardly as forgiving. But Terry Garrett is beating the odds, with the use of an N64 emulator with multiple save states. But would you really hold that against him? Don't you see?

Here's a clip of how he gets the Hookshot... with that annoying gravedigger who throws fire:

Terry also conquers the Forest Temple, so he's well on his way to completing what is a momentous and truly epic task. You can find the rest of his videos on YouTube here.

I'd like to think that if I became so impaired I'd go to these lengths too. This is such a battle by inches though. Pretty goddam remarkable.

I heard about a bunch of gamers helping a blind man play this game, is this him or are there more than one?

I think it's a different person. I remember GR made a manifesto entry about someone helping a blind man beat the game. From what I remember, the person with vision would give him all the controls.

If I went lost my sight, I'd spend every last day of my life practicing to become a blind ninja master.

This is nothing short of amazing. The amount of patience and determination this man has is astounding. It definitely makes me proud to be apart of game audio and sound design. Audio is just as important as everything else in my opinion when it comes video games and film.

You might say audio is the most over looked part of a video game (get it, over looked… Audio, that’s a joke son).

Ladies and gentlemen, the only person in the world who can legitimately say "Navi, SHUT UP, you're throwing me off!"

All jokes aside, this is seriously inspirational stuff.
