LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

I wasn't allowed to talk about the new Infinity Ward game last week when I met with Activision, and I don't have much to say now that Xbox One spilled the beans.

Buy This GOTY Edition: Special Edition NOW!

Posted on Thursday, March 29 @ 07:38:55 Eastern by Keri_Honea
I'm a sucker for Collector's Editions, I admit. My only saving grace is that I'm pretty picky about buying them. It really does depend on what is included, price, how much I love the series, etc. For example, I did buy the Limited Edition for Gears of War 3, but not the Collector's Edition, as I couldn't bring myself to pay $129 for an edition that doesn't even include a soundtrack. (Side note: soundtracks in CEs are very important to me.)

But I am well aware that most of these special editions, especially when you get into the realm of the Game of the Year editions, are mostly for suckers. I admit that I am sometimes one of them. My support group meets on Wednesdays. Next meeting, I'm going to bring this video I found today on Dueling Analogs, because it really does hit on every point about every special edition or GOTY edition in existence. We'll all laugh, say how true it is, and then go finish our preorders for the Diablo III Collector's Edition.

Next question is, how many references to actual Collector's Editions did you catch?

I ordered 2 D3 collectors editions... One for me and one for the gf... It seems like one of the better CE deals though since it comes with D2 + the expansion. I may have a collectors edition problem as well...

Collectors editions and GOTY editions are not the same and cannot be lumped into the same catagory. CEs are always bad value because the cost is rediculous based on what you get, where as a GOTY is a bargain in that it usually includes all DLC and still costs no more or even less than it did brand new. If I had purchased fall

Out 3 brand new and bought all DLC ii would be poor. GOTY edition has 4 or 5 DLC and was 40 dollars. Hmm...

I got the Mortal Kombat collectors edition and really loved the Scorpion and Sub-Zero bookends.

I think GOTY editions are more aimed at people who didn't buy it at release.
It's saying "Hey you! This was the game of the year! Ok, it was one of like 300 games of the year, but it was pretty good. You missed it? Well get it now, and we'll throw in some random bonus crap!"

From what I've seen, GOTY editions are normal price or a bit cheaper, since the game is several months past release.

It's not a sucker purchase unless you already played the game.

The only Collector's Edition I've got is Dark Souls, so you can imagine I'm not very fond of them.
But GotY editions are completely different because they've got DLC that should have been in the game in the first place, so when I buy one I know (hope?) I'm getting a finished, polished product, and that's great.

By the way I find that credit card too cocky.
