Posted on Monday, December 5 @ 19:11:57 Eastern by
You guys know how this goes! GameRevolution will be publishing our Game of the Year picks soon and your nominations in each category will be called out in each of those post.

But enough about us! We want to let the world know what the GameRevolution community thinks! That's why we're going to tournament style our way down to one game to rule them all. Your nominations for Game of the Year will enter and only one will leave... maybe a little bruised, a little beaten, but all the better for it. Let's get to it with the first round!

Bastion

From GameRevolution's Review:

Bastion advances video games as art. In the same breath, it can challenge your thumbs and make you wonder about the possibilities of its world. It feels like a retail game; it feels like a straight shot to the summer gaming drag; it feels like the beginning of something bigger.

Batman: Arkham City

From GameRevolution's Review:

When a game gives you the ability to silently dispatch a number of firearm-wielding hoodlums, grapnel hook and glide to a completely different location, and then enter fisticuffs with a group of 20+ gangsters, you can't help but fall in love. I put the controller down and said, "I am vengeance, I am the night, I am the Batman."

Just out of curiosity, is there any particular formula or pattern you guys use to determine the match-ups?

Every contender was taken from the community's nominations for Game of the Year. I organized the tournament to maximize exciting rounds throughout with two heavily favored games for the final battle.... so basically I stacked it to make it as interesting as possible.

I hope the match-ups are decided fairly. IGN (haha, yeah) totally rigged their "Best Zelda Ever" vote tournament like no other.

But you guys aren't IGN, and you don't pit the most popular games against obscure crap like the CD-i titles in the first round to guarantee that the popular ones win and drive more site traffic/revenue.

I honestly thought bastion and batman was a good match up and it turned out that they went 8-8 at first... that was my last count.
