LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Community Choice! Game of the Year Round 3: Dark Souls Versus Deus Ex

Posted on Friday, December 9 @ 13:31:36 Eastern by
You guys know how this goes! GameRevolution will be publishing our Game of the Year picks soon and your nominations in each category will be called out in each of those post.

But enough about us! We want to let the world know what the GameRevolution community thinks! That's why we're going to tournament style our way down to one game to rule them all. Your nominations for Game of the Year will enter and only one will leave... maybe a little bruised, a little beaten, but all the better for it. Let's get to it with the second round!

Dark Souls

From GameRevolution's Review:

This is a game of inches, not yards. If you want a roller coaster on rails, I suggest you go elsewhere. If you want a game that explains everything upfront and gives you a clear path, I suggest you go elsewhere. If you want a challenging, briefly terrifying, often maddening game with plenty to explore, experiment with, and beat your head against, this is your game.

VS

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

From GameRevolution's Review:

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is one of the best games of the year. It sports refined, detailed gameplay that’s tailored to the way you want to play, backed up by some of the best level design in the last decade. The glitches blemish the experience just enough that they should have warranted a little more development time, but at the end of the day, this is still a great game that no one should miss out on.

I'm rooting for DXHR here though I know a lot of people are gonna vote for Dark Souls. Should be a pretty good matchup.

Dark Souls way into GR's GotY trophy will be as difficult as the game itself.

Human Revolution and Dark Souls both share a common weakness in their storys being only as involving as you allow it to become... both games feature plots that become confusing and almost pointless... if it comes down to the art, environment and level design and how the games play... despite arguably both being action-based RPG's. Dark Souls offers a real challenge that could potentially deny some players the glory of ever defeating it - where Deus Ex flaunted huge multi-solution challenges (on normal difficulty atleast) that could almost always be solved through stunning or headshotting every enemy along the way (always worked out fine for me). DS challenge is entirely combat based, and very varied. And i enjoyed its challenge so much that it would be my GOTY.
