Company of Heroes Lead Designer Sacrifices Life

In his final act, Brian Wood swerved his car into an out-of-control Chevy Blazer to protect his pregnant wife.

"All the policemen say that if it had hit the car head-on, all of us would be dead. At the very last second (Brian) braked really hard and turned right so that he would be put in the path of the SUV and not me and the baby, and that is the only thing that saved us, " said wife Erin Wood.
Last Friday, as the Woods were in a Subaru wagon on route to Whidbey Island in Washington State, a Chevy Blazer crossed the center line when its driver attempted to take her sweater off and asked the other front passenger to take the wheel. In the resulting collision, the Blazer drove on top of the Subaru and crushed Brian Wood, killing him.
The Washington State Patrol has found evidence of drug use by the four occupants in the Blazer. The two back passengers were killed in the accident, while the driver and the front passenger, Jordyn Weichert and Samantha Bowling, who suffered a broken pelvis, are facing charges of three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular assault. None of them were wearing seatbelts.
Brian Wood was a lead designer, specializing in 3-D real-time strategy computer games, for Relic Entertainment and was working on the Company of Heroes franchise.

Though Brian was probably just trying to keep on his side of the road, his quick thinking was definitely heroic. My he be among good company. A Company of...Heroes. Amen.
