So much more than war...

The recent blog, Peace in the Era of Call of Duty  really made me think about war games that dig deeper than simply a kill streak reward. The first game that came to mind was Spec-Ops: The Line and although I haven’t played it, I began to wonder if it did the war genre as...

Does The Free Copy Of FIFA 14 For Xbox One Even Matter?

Posted on Thursday, September 19 @ 12:16:21 Eastern by Devin_Charles

FIFA heads, this one is for you. Get excited because a copy of FIFA 14 will be yours with the purchase of the Xbox One. How cool is that? A next-gen console drops and you immediately get a copy of one of the world’s leading sports titles!

Well, now that I built up your excitement, I have to break the bad news. No one is actually getting a free copy of FIFA; that is, unless you pre-order a European Xbox One Day One edition, which are apparently all sold out on Amazon.

This comes as a bit of a head-scratcher due to the fact that Microsoft Corporate VP Phil Harrison, originally stated all Xbox One pre-orders would include a copy. But recently in a Twitter update (getting the word out one Tweet at a time) from marketing manager Graeme Boyd, it was announced that all pre-orders wouldn’t warrant a copy of FIFA 14 but in fact would just be offered to Day One Edition buyers.

Regardless of what’s being offered, this is a Microsoft exclusive. With the Xbox One's retail price of $500, any incentive to purchase the new Xbox console helps. Bundles have always been a part of new game consoles but normally with titles of lesser value. Adding FIFA to the package brings in high hopes of keeping gamers interested.

But with this promotion only being offered in Europe, where do U.S. gamers fit in, or the world for that matter? Is there any bias towards the blokes across the pond? Of course there is. Though there’s a huge soccer following all around the globe, this announcement seems to be targeting nations they feel have the highest chance of actually caring for such a deal. But it may seem with the World Cup coming up in just under a year, targeting should have started in South American countries.

Mostly to this point, all of the reservations have been made and most of this is a moot point anyway. But fear none because even though these Day One Editions have been sold and getting your hands on free FIFA is virtually unavailable, Forza 5 shall be put in place as your free downloadable title. I know, I know... very thrilling times but I’m going to need everyone to calm down.
