Don't Panic: PlayStation Network Going Down for Maintenance

Posted on Tuesday, May 24 @ 08:27:21 Eastern by

Before everyone goes to sign onto the PlayStation Network and sees that far too familiar "down for maintenance" message and starts cursing Anonymous, GeoHot and all the other hackers, we wanted to bring you this special public service announcement:

PlayStation Network is scheduled to undergo maintenance today, from about 8am until approximately 5pm Pacific time.

It shouldn't be all that bad, though. Sony is saying most users won't have any difficulty signing in or gaming online. That's the good news. Now for the bad news:

For those asking about the PlayStation Store, we’re still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month. Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today.

Despite earlier reports that Sony was telling its partners that the store could return on today, May 24th, it looks like we'll have to wait at least another week. WTF!

Ah, The Simpsons Movie... you think it's going to be terrible and have terrifically low expectations... and it ends up not being that bad.

It hasn't been up between the hacking and now for me. I've had internet, but I want my free download crap. Which, I won't download because the offer is moot. I don't want it FREE, least of all to pay for the crap some ****'s being offered.

My game has some free DLC I'd like to get my stinking hands on though.

I'm so tired of this. Sony had to know the rumor going around about today, they should have said upfront days ago it was false. To think all of this could have been avoided if someone in the company thought to themselves "Hey, we're a pretty big company, maybe we should have some security in place."
