EA vs. Gamers: How We See A Game

Posted on Sunday, June 12 @ 23:30:41 Eastern by
I don't think this applies solely to EA, but to any company that has a pervasive practice of DLC, $10 online passes, and whatever other shenanigans they like to pull with our wallets and our time.

even though EA arent the only company to make games like this, they're easily the worst. let's just say you buy battlefield pre-owned, it'll still be pretty expensive for as long as the online servers are going, but to have to pay near full price for a game that is mostly about the multiplayer and then have to pay extra just to use it's main feature is very stingy and i hate to say it but i think EA are worse than Activison because of that one fact

It's just the publisher trying to get some money off a pre-owned sale (instead of none). You aren't required to buy the online pass unless you want to play multiplayer. You know this when you buy the game second-hand. You're using their services without paying for them, so why shouldn't they add in a $10 fee for people who don't buy new games? Also if a used copy of Battlefield costs almost as much as a new one that's the retailer's doing, not EA's. Publishers don't set prices on used games. If a used copy+$10 pass is still cheaper than a new game you come out ahead anyway.

Pretty much. Honestly, everyone should be buying games brand new anyways. If you don't want to pay $60 for a new copy, wait a week or two and it'll drop to $40. Look at the steep discounts on Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat like the week after release if you need an example.

If your only saving a few bucks buying it used im sorry but its your own damn fault, not to mention EA has no reason to care, seeing as anyone who buys it used isnt a customer of theres.

ok there are some good points there, but if EA didnt care about getting extra money for their online services then why are they only doing it now and not before? they have enough ****in money as it is, they didnt need to start doing this, they're starting to think more about money and less about being the better company and giving players what they want

I hope you know Battlefield isn't doing a pre order bonus so thats enough of that, as for online passes QQ less Nick you can't buy a used game or rental the only problem with this is actual pre order stuff, blame gamestop for giving devs and producers the idea in the first place

I agree. To many people want everything for nothing. I'm sure it costs them big bucks to run servers for older games, and when someone buys the game for 10 bucks from gamestop and expects to have free online services, well that just ins't fair. Now I'm not defending EA, they are money loving jerks, but it's still a business and businesses don't take on negative income just to appease some tight wallet-ed people. You could argue that it's still their fan base and that it may piss off the fans, etc. In the end it all comes down to the bottom line.

Pre-order DLC is way different from EA's $10 thing or the online pass thing other pubs are doing. Just to clarify....

wherever Bioware wants it, I think EA tends to give them "some" space because they are a power hitter company.

That's definately how I see modern games. Developers give us 80% of the game, then drag the other 20% out in DLC. I try to get the major DLC games on PC because I've got a 1TB hard drive. Much easier than downloading it onto a 250GB 360!
