After all these years, and growing up with Windows 3.1, I have seen an entire evolution of computers and software. Touch screens and large resolutions were a pipe dream just 15 years ago. Now it's the norm. Going from a Packard Bell (yes, before HP) that couldn't run 3D Ultra Mini...

Ex-PR Firm Takes Shot at Duke Nukem in Latest Press Release

Posted on Thursday, July 21 @ 10:08:23 PST by

You may remember right around the launch of Duke Nukem Forever, there was an epic PR fiasco that led to 2K Games dumping the Redner Group from representing Duke Nukem Forever, and any other 2K Games titles. That same PR firm and their head honcho, Jim Redner, is taking a shot at their former title in their latest press release for the new title they're representing, The Asskickers.

The email accompanying the press release has the tongue-in-cheek title of "The Asskickers - For Gamers Wanting to Kick Ass Instead of Chewing Bubblegum". (If you're slow to pick up on things, I'll cut to the chase - Duke Nukem is known for "kicking ass and chewing bubblegum".) The press release takes another similar jab: "The Asskickers Leave the Bubblegum Behind And Just Kicks Corruption’s Ass".

Honestly, this is a very clever move by The Redner Group. The issue with them threatening journalists with review copies of games in the Duke Nukem Forever review fallout was a hot topic, and using passive aggressive, indirect jabs like this will get their new title, The Asskickers, plenty of press. Even if it's not attention on the game directly.

Hell, I hadn't heard of The Asskickers before this, but the press release headline caught my eye (so did the hilarious quote from '80s rap group N.W.A.) and brought my attention to The Asskickers, which looks pretty awesome.

The Asskickers is a retro-style beat 'em up like Streets of Rage and Double Dragon, and was "designed as political commentary for today’s economic climate, where the corrupted rich get richer at the expense of the middle and lower classes". The subject matter definitely puts me in the mood to spit out my bubblegum and kick some ass.

The Asskickers releases today for $8.99 on the PC and Mac. Check it out at

Well done, Jim Redner. Well done.

Oh, and if you're wondering, here's the quote from N.W.A.'s "Gangsta, Gangsta": “With a right left, right left you're toothless. And then you say goddamn they ruthless!
