DAILY MANIFESTOFinal Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend Ends With Hunger Games EventPosted on Sunday, July 22 @ 23:38:15 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack
Earlier in the day ArenaNet made a public announcement that there would be an event to bid farewell to Guild Wars 2's final beta weekend. I was expecting a huge gathering with tons of framerate lag and people spamming chat with random slurs but what I got instead was an extremely enjoyable Guild Wars styled rendition of The Hunger Games. The event was called Hunger Royale and it pit groups of players eachother in a fight to the death within a large jungle. Ammo, rations, and other essentials could be found around the map but were scarce, so I was quick to waste bullets testing my untrusty firearm. Roaming packs of players were almost everywhere and small skirmishes were fought left and right. Given that I chose a tiny Asura character that weighs less than my cat, I spent a lot more time running than helping out my teammates. Actually, I ran away in the middle of a battle to take a screenshot and show off my new shades. See below for the entire sequence: ![]()
"You go ahead and fight them while I run and get some help... BYE!"
![]() "Oh god I can't run any longer. I really should give up smoking." ![]()
"Yeah, I'm badass. What of it?"
The entire event was fantastic and in addition to all of the attention ArenaNet has been giving the forums it's clear that they really care about the community. What a great way to end a successful beta weekend, and now all we have to do is wait five agonizing weeks until the game releases...

One really cool thing that wasn't mentioned here is that all of the players constantly lost health due to hunger, and had to hunt for food to survive. It meant that hiding out was useless, and picking battles was extremely important. The ability to leave explosive rations on the ground made things even more intense.
