LATEST FEATURESBeing A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.
Before Microsoft and Sony do something regarding their future in the video game business, I wanted to write, and I've wanted it for a long time now, but other things kept getting in my way, and fearing that tomorrow might be too late, today will have to do.
...
Yeah, I'm glad they blew the rest of their Wii U load on us. I think after all the hype and excitement over the next-gen consoles wears off attention will majorly turn back to what's wrong with the Wii U.
I know you "Professional Video Game Reviewers" don't think it's important and some commenters on the site agree, but I and everyone I know made extensive use of the backwards compatibility this console generation. We all had both consoles at launch and after playing our pittance of new launch titles we would put in something like Halo 2, Jade Empire, KOTOR, God of War, or TimeSplitters. There's still a bunch of PS3 games I want to play and I'm really bummed-out that I won't get to on the PS4. My 360 and PS3 are now dead and I'm certainly not going to spend money now to get new ones with the generation so close to ending. Barring colossal douchebaggery from Microsoft (which is possible), I can guarantee you that I'm going to get a 720 first if it has backwards compatibility. I also suspect that the compatibility issues with the PS3's cell architecture are overblown and that within months of release there will be cracks & emulators for the PS4 available on TPB.
Saying that backwards compatibility isn't important because the old consoles didn't have them is like saying that wireless controllers, dvd/bluray playback, and internet connectivity aren't important for the same reason. If neither console ends up having it, I'm probably going to stay a strictly PC gamer for a few years while the game libraries build up, and that's bad for Sony and Microsoft.
I guess I just don't think it's a good idea to expect functionality and at the same time expect not to have to pay for it. I agree though I do think Microsoft will include it, so you'll still have a console to buy!

"Heath talked about that but now I...I forget what it was."
Don't worry about it. So does everyone. Including customers. And Sony.
