GDC Day 3 MMO of the Day: Poisonville

It's Thursday and I'm starting to wonder how I'm still alive after going to five, count'em, five parties last night. Including Tell Tale's shindig at the Cartoon Art Museum which had a killer Batman exhibit going on. This is a shot of a piece from the old Bat-Manga comic of the 60's. Gotta love the fro on Robin.
Today's MMO is Poisonville and, much like all of this week's picks, it tends to stray from the herd of WoW clones by offering something totally different. While it is an RPG, it would probably be more appropriately categorized as an MMOGTA. That's right. We all know how much fun robbing banks and killing hookers is, but having friends to help you launder the money and dispose of the corpse (don't feel too bad for her, she died inside years ago) is always more fun. Don't quote me on the in-game hookercide just yet, as I didn't actually see any, but the game is still in closed beta and has a long way to go before it's released, so once can hope, can't he? I can confirm that you will be able to shoot cops at the very least.
What really impressed me about this title though was the fact that the entire thing is browser-based and runs in Java. Bigpoint, the company behind Poisonville and the upcoming Battlestar Galactica MMO have made more games than you could count on your toes and fingers plus all those of your immediate family and friends. Seriously, they've made a buttload of stuff. And even in closed beta this is still looking impressively cool.
I can't really go into too much more detail than what I've already said, but you'll be sure to hear more when Poisonville moves into open beta. And as soon as we know more about Battlestar Galactica Online beyond just the fact that it's a game and it's being made we'll let you know about that too.
