Happy Birthday Atari 2600

Posted on Monday, October 1 @ 21:40:35 Eastern by Duke_Ferris
The Atari 2600 video game console (they called it a "Video Computer System" back then) turns 30 years old this month.

Yep the classic Atari was released just in time for the 1977 holiday shopping season. The price? $199. Take that, Sony! Although If you adjust for inflation, that's about $650, making the PS3 almost look like a bargain.

The pic on the right is from GR's little video game museum. Which is really just an old 32" TV with a ton of consoles underneath. Currently the Genesis is hooked up. Behind the 2600 is the even older Atari Super Pong machine I found at a garage sale for $3.

But here's the depressing part. I remember playing the 2600, which officially makes me old. I didn't have one, but my friend Timmer, who was a year older than me did. We used to be entertained for hours by some truly bad games and dragons that looked like ducks.

Anybody else feel old?
