Well, Gamergate has spilled over into the mainstream media and the coverage appears to be nearly uniformly dreadful.
Take " What is Gamergate, and What Does It Say About Gender In Video Games? " by David Konnow as an example. It appears that the writer has done little to no...
It's the most wonderful time of the year—GameRevolution's Holiday Gift Guide time! This year, we've got great gift suggestions for the gamer and tech enthusiast in your life, no matter what console they're into, and at every price range.
In this list, you'll find everything a PlayStation gamer could want, need, or hope for.
(Buy Now) – Sony’s PlayStation 3 isn’t exactly dead yet, but you won’t have to look very hard to find the next-generation PlayStation 4 console on every gamer’s list. It seems like since E3, the PlayStation brand could do no wrong…. And that’s true. Sony is amazing. Let’s all get PlayStation 4 consoles this Christmas and leave the bow on them and carry them around to all the relatives houses like puppies.
While it might seem impossible to find a PlayStation 4 on launch day or on Black Friday during the crazy shopping rush, keep calm and call your local big box retailer (hint, hint, maybe Best Buy). Because of Sony’s staggered launch schedule, Japanese gamers will be waiting until next year to buy a PS4. That means more stock for Western territories and the weeks leading up to Christmas.
Killzone: Shadow Fall
(Buy Now) – As far as launch games go, look no further than Guerrilla Games and Sony’s first-party franchise Killzone. Because Killzone: Shadow Fall is a first-party game only available on PlayStation 4, it’s bound to use a lot more of the console’s unique features, including the controller’s touch-pad.
Further, Sony has promised that competitive multiplayer maps will be added to Killzone: Shadow Fall after release completely free of charge. That means you’ll get a lot of mileage out of Killzone’s customizable Warzones multiplayer mode.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
(Buy Now) – Despite competing with Sony’s first-party efforts, there might not be a better looking game for PlayStation 4 at launch than ACIV: Black Flag. Yes, that’s the game about a dude in white hoods stabbing all kinds of historical figures, but Ubisoft’s fact-versus-fiction aside, the beautiful Caribbean seas are cast wide open for players to explore with their very own pirate ship and pirate crew.
You can explore the bigger islands, you can swim ashore of a sand bar with hidden treasure, or you can fight sharks. Players can hop online for multiplayer for even more, but with a crew ready to sing historically accurate sea-shanties at your command, it doesn’t get anymore yo-ho-and-a-bottle-of-rum than Assassin’s Creed on next-gen platforms.
PlayStation Plus 3- and 12-Month Subscription
(Buy Now) – There is no better value for your money in gaming right now than PlayStation Plus. Sony’s online service doesn’t just get you into multiplayer action on PlayStation 4; it also serves up a new free game every week, ranging from blockbuster, smash hits to charming indies full of new ideas.
Even if you’re not upgrading to PS4 where you need PS Plus to duke it out with friends and foes online, PlayStation 3 will continue to see benefits and free games and discounts from PS Plus for the rest of its life. Call this one an easy stocking stuffer if you’ve forgotten to get your shopping done.
500GB PS3 Grand Theft Auto V Bundle
(Buy Now)– You might think us foolhardy for listing the so-last-gen PlayStation 3 in a 2013 holiday gift guide. The future is here! Don’t worry, we can hear you shouting at your computer screen, but think about it. Maybe the gamer in your life has had an Xbox 360 all these years. Maybe they never even touched Sony’s PS3, but now is an excellent time to try switching sides.
Aside from Grand Theft Auto V that's packed in this bundle, there are lots of unbelievable games are entirely exclusive to PlayStation 3—meaning an Xbox gamer has been missing out on stellar titles like The Last of Us… or this next brand-new game.
Gran Turismo 6
(Buy Now) – Nothing will satisfy the Nascar or Formula racing fan in your house like the extreme realism and precise mechanics of Gran Turismo 6. If you want to get really crazy with your gift giving or you’re just trying to occupy the go-fast-fan in your life with digital fulfillment of their lifelong fantasy, try building a cockpit for your nice-list gamer.
You can find excellent racing peripherals for PlayStation 3, some made specifically for Gran Turismo games, but be warned: not everything you buy for PS3 will work with PS4 if you plan on upgrading. In fact, Gran Turismo 6 itself won’t play on PS4 if you’ve also got that wrapped and waiting under the holiday-agnostic shrub. Don’t trade-in that PS3 just yet.
