What would the lawsuit be? Copyright law doesn't protect names ("portal") and trademark infringement would only exist if this origin storage was selling a similar product that your average consumer would confuse as being the original product.

Not sure. It depends on whether Valve filed their Portal logo as a trademark. From my understanding, they can sue simply based on the similarity of the logos alone. The fact that they're not selling a similar product would factor into the judgment, but that's only one of the criteria that factors into trademark law.

I took a quick look on the Valve site. The Portal logo always has a tiny TM beside, so yes it is a trademark.

From what I remember, you don't actually need to officially have a trademark is someone else steals your look to the extent that their product could be confused with yours. It's just easier to sue if it's a TM.

It really comes down to whether or not the logos are similar, which they are. There's a hair care place downtown where I live that was being sued by a large corporation over their logo, even though they aren't in the same business. Valve most certainly can sue over this and most likely win.
