LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Everything I Learned About Call of Duty: Ghosts Last Week
I wasn't allowed to talk about the new Infinity Ward game last week when I met with Activision, and I don't have much to say now that Xbox One spilled the beans.

I Hate Modern Silent Hill! I'm So Unique And Hip! (Not!)

Posted on Friday, September 7 @ 18:07:39 Eastern by sara_gunn

Silent Hill: Book of Memories is gonna be a god-awful travesty, am I rite? Like, the worst thing since Silent Hill: Shattered Expectations Memories, eh? Am I fashionable enough now to have established myself as a true fan? AM I?!!!

Okay, guys. We really need to get over the hatred of modern Silent Hills. Don’t get me wrong, they’re certainly a heap o’ garbage. The Room was, arguably, the last great SH game (though I thought Origins was pretty good) and everything since that has been crap on crap bread with a side of crap.

That’s kind of my point, though: We, the fans, need to get the hell over it. It’s never gonna be what it was, so just let it go. If you’re itching for some kick-ass, modern survival horror, go play Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Or Deadly Premonition. Or the Dead Money expansion for Fallout: New Vegas. Horror games on the level with Silent Hill 3 are out there! You just have to open your eyes and stop being such a fanboy!

Because, for realsies, a change.org petition? A facebook group with blocked comments? We’re better than this, fellow fans. Anyone intelligent enough to appreciate why Silent Hill 2 is the greatest horror game ever made is above stooping to this level. Just move on, guys. We can all… move… on…

Excuse me while I go cry in into my Robbie the Rabbit doll.

I just reviewed and played Downpour and that was the worst SH game I have ever played. All the others are pretty good with their strengths and weaknesses, but MY GOD Downpour had almost 0 strengths. Hated it.

Are you serious with that Book of Memories comment? I'm actually really looking forward to it.

    THANK YOU!
Book of Memories is a spin-off, nothing more. It's as much a Silent Hill game as Theatrythm is a Final Fantasy game.
And it looks FACKEEN ORESUM. (to keep with the Yahtzee reference)

Origins and Homecoming were good! I really enjoyed them. I have been playing Silent Hill since the first one when I was about 8.

She mostly just hates everything, maybe one day she'll hate GR and stop writing for it. I'm tired already of seeing the front page filled with her crap. She's a very negative person, and not even in an interesting way. At least when when GR folks like Heath or Daniel *****es, it's amusing to read. Even when Daniel (or was it Anthony?) lost his **** over console rumors it was funny as hell to read, these constant negative posts and complaining is getting old... and I thought I was a whiner, yeesh.

"Okay, guys. We really need to get over the hatred of modern Silent Hills. Don’t get me wrong, they’re certainly a heap o’ garbage."

I love this sentence. "We need to stop hating bad video games." WTF? Let people piss and moan about a series they used to like being shitty now.

"It’s never gonna be what it was, so just let it go."

Really? Instead of fans complaining about bad video games they should just shut up and accept it because OBVIOUSLY there is no possible way to make good games again, hey?

Will you be ranting about Final Fantasy next since the best games are also behind them and yet fans still complain about the new ones? How about Call of Duty? Hey don't leave them out, they must both make you hopping mad too.

Also: "am I rite", "for realsies", and "crap on crap bread with a side of crap". Please tell me you don't get paid to write like this. Tell me you're the GR intern, or a summer student or something...

The lack of understanding of sarcasm on the internet is always wonderful.

If I recall right I did the E3 preview for Book of Memories. It's a dungeon crawler with procedurally created dungeons. I love how everyone has jumped on the hate bandwagon because it's (OMG) a completely different game with different mechanics. If you never allow a franchise room to grow or change in any way, you get. . .

Silent Hill: Downpour! (which I also reviewed for this site)

    Amazing!

    Zing!

Basically Silent Hill can't win. Attempts to stick with the core style are failing, and attempts to change from that core style in any way are rejected by fans.

Honestly, I liked the mechanical idea of Shattered Memories. It made sense to me; in the older games I would just run when I could. That being said, the game suffers from poor execution, so you got me there. I liked it better than Homecoming, but that isn't praise.

I haven't been following Book of Memories, and it's hardly offensive to me. Sure it's not what I picture (or asked) for Silent Hill, but honestly, it's A.) a spin-off, and B.) at this point bring on the genre change. I'd rather the IP climb to a new image than drown in its own waste.

Off topic: I liked Deadly Premonition, but it's not where I'd look to fill the Silent Hill void.

Edit: "and it's hardly offensive to me" should read "but it's hardly offensive to me."
