If Doom Was Made Today... And It Sucked

YouTube user Chubzdoomer recreated Doom's E1M1's Hangar level with features from first-person shooters, like cut-scenes, regenerating health, and linear level design, to make a point: "This is meant to make a statement about games today rather than be an enjoyable level."
Enjoy all of the unnecessary messages, long-ass dialogue, and pointless jumping.

For the record, I'm more of a Battlefield kind of guy. Also Dark Souls.

The bit about the DLC and quicktime events were spot on though. That video did a better job of showing what you'll see in the Battlefield 3 single player campaign opposed to the MW3 campaign though.

Every floor of every level was like walking on trampolines.

As has probably been mentioned numerous times: games like Battlefield or Call of Duty try to have a storyline, but lead you around by the nose because this scripted event is IMPORTANT DAMMIT, TAKE A LOOK AT EXPLOSION. IT IS A PLOT EXPLOSION AND IMPORTANT. *ahem*. Point being, this video is heavy handed but so is modern storytelling. There's a reason you remember the little things like secrets in games like Doom or Duke 3D, but only the setpieces and multiplayer from BF and MW.

tl;dr Gaming has evolved, storytelling and pacing have regressed to handholding levels.
