Kinectendo Super Mario Bros.

Posted on Saturday, November 27 @ 07:57:37 Eastern by

Kinect hacker Yankeyan's latest hack has him running and jumping in real life to control Super Mario Bros. for the NES. Though, this is pretty awesome, it's a great reminder why we use controllers to play video games.

This makes me wonder if we'll ever see hardcore games on Kinect. The thing is, though, Mario only has two directions, really. Putting you in a 3D environment would give you more precise control, but that's just a theory.

Is the technology and ability there to see them? Yes. Will we ever? No. It's a shame, really. I could see with some effort, a rails shooter that allowed you to choose your own cover and when you wanted to move forward fairly easily. It's not the most hardcore, but I think it would be a step in the right direction. But you would need some way to simulate firing a gun, like a controller or something.

Operator: "Hello, emergency services. Which service do you require?"

    Anxious parent: "Fire Service please".

Operator: "Where's the fire at sir?"

AP: "There's no fire. We just need someone with a ladder. My son was playing Tomb Raider Kinect, and unfortunately he managed to climb from the porch onto the garage then up onto the roof of the house, before realising he hadn't collected the rusty key. Then he got killed by a falling boulder and now he doesn't know how to get back down again..."

It's only a matter of time.
