Netflix Picks of the Week (8-30-2010)

Posted on Monday, August 30 @ 17:54:36 Eastern by Blake_Morse

Were moving back from the features section for the time being because it was torturing us that you guys couldn't leave your own picks. The list is a little short this week as no one else is here right now... But we should be back up to full steam next week!

Blake: Wild at Heart- Saturday night after drinking heavily and getting a fat lip and a shiner at a marching band show, Joe "Blow" Accorsi and our newest writer, Mike berated me for having never seen this late 80's/early 90's classic. The film is essentially Director David Lynch's warped take on the classic Wizard of Oz, complete with a gimpy transvestite tin man played by oddball actor Crispin Glover. It's the usual surreal, dreamlike escapades that someone who has seen any of his other movies have come to expect. Joe and Mike were both in agreement that this was the last film they really liked Nic Cage in and I can see why. That snake skin jacket is a symbol of his individuality and belief in personal freedom. Perfect flick for late night post-party drunken hang out session with your friends.

Nick: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo- Lisbeth has issues. She's a punk-ass computer hacker with a dangerous past and a devilish need for vengeance. Mikael Blomkvist also has issues. He's fallen victim to a corporate ploy and has been convicted of libel. Luckily, before he's imprisoned, he gets a strange call by Henrik Vanger of the powerful Vanger Group to solve a mystery that eventually requires the assistance of Lisbeth. Graphic, mind-bending, suspenseful, and twisted, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is about an odd couple of detectives who need each other more than they dare to admit.

That's what we've been checking out. What about you?
