E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

DAILY MANIFESTO

No Batman: Arkham City Spoilers Here!

Posted on Friday, September 30 @ 11:36:45 Eastern by

There are literally tons of places you can go for all of your gaming news. We live and work and play in an industry designed around fantasy, suspense, and action. Games are growing more and more capable of drawing players in and teaching them or titillating them or even surprising them. One thing I'd personally like to recognize, as someone anticipating many games as hotly as you are, is the power of destruction spoilers can have.

News today surfaced from a very recent Batman: Arkham City preview event that's made a splash as revealing a major spoiler from the game's campaign. It's true that Rocksteady's Machismo of Marketing Dax Ginn was on hand to inform journalists that they were more than welcome to report on this spoiler.

It's also true that it should the choice of the gamer whether they are in on it or not. Let's be very clear:

GameRevolution isn't about to spoil Batman: Arkham City or any other game in such a way.

If you want spoilers, we can deliver them to you, but we're not about to plaster them all over our front page. We're not going to tell you what happens or what doesn't happen. We're not going to paper over it by saying that what we saw could be misdirection.

That's bull shit.

I'm frankly pissed at having something so important spoiled for me today. If you've been the victim of spoilers today, or at anytime in the growing pantheon of video games, share that hurt with us in the comments. While you're doing that, enjoy some new Batman: Arkham City screens.

dude that sucks. The reason I beat Gears 3 in 2 sittings the day it came out was strictly because I didnt want some douche spoiling what little story line it has. I was mainly curious to see if Carmine lived or died and would have kicked someone in the face if they had ruined that for me.

I was on IGN today, yes, IGN, reading a article called "I'd kill you to play batman arkham city right now"
and I was spoiled. I was reading, and since I read fast, I suddenly stopped and said "What?"
I stared at it, and this angered me greatly. No Shaded out words that you highlight to get it if you wanted, it was there, in plain text, staring at me. "(Spoiler alert)....BLEEPBLEEPBLEEPBLEEPBLEEP"(I'm not going to spoil)
It made me think about how much has already been spoiled in this game. The constant supervillain reveals in those awesome videos. Its spoiling! I'd be super stoked playing the game to suddenly have to tussle with Solomon Grundy, who I had ZERO clue would be in it, if I wasnt already Spoiled.
    Spoilers Ruin Games.
My Batman Arkham City experiance has been soiled by IGN, and later Kotaku parroting it.

Your right many commenters here at GR have shared similar feelings about how Rocksteady and Warner Brothers are handling the PR for this game. Too much information is often a bad thing, get the game into the hands of the gamers with something left to find out, it’s part of the fun of playing a video game.

Why would a reputable website spoil one of the most anticipated games of the year? What type of drugs are they on to do so ? But believe that Rocksteady knows some thing that they haven't showed to say that the media could go ahead and spoil the game or they just have enough pre-orders to make them rich... either way I'll avoid reading them( I started on kotaku but stopped right away, I'll wait for my game to be shipped)

You can't blame Kotaku really. Rocksteady promo'd it. but it's not like almost EVERY other outlet out there isn't re-posting it. Hell, even with the same title.

    I hate Game Journalism sometimes.

Please, don’t defend Kotaku, they had a choice to post it or not to post it, imo they choose wrong. They should have had the courage of their convictions, and said no we will NOT post it, just like GR did. The logic of “well, everybody else is doing it” is childish and does not carry any weight, GR didn’t post this spoiler and I respect them because of that decision.

I remember seeing motorcycle gloves in a store once, and thinking "Those knuckle protectors would make punches devastating! If I ever become a superhero, I'm going to get a pair of these."
Apparently Bruce had the same idea.
Looks like they put a lot of thought into the costume to make the details believable. Nice touches. I wonder if the costume damage is now dynamic, or just happens at specific points in the game like in the last game. Not that dynamic costume damage is a big selling feature... unless it happens to Catwoman and Harley Quinn ;)

It happens at specific points like the last game. Dynamically he'd be naked by the end of the game.

I'm not sure if anyone else has said this (I'm afraid to read the comments incase I spoil something for myself) but thanks GR, and thanks Dan for having respect for the players who want to experience the whole package gaming offers

Knowing Aerith's fate in Final Fantasy 7 was one of the reasons I didn't enjoyed the game so much when I played it and eventually lost interest.
