Oh Noes! Graphic Sex In A Video Game!
Posted on Friday, January 11 @ 20:34:04 Eastern by Duke_FerrisWon't somebody please think of the children?!?!??!? Yes, it's true, you can have sex in Mass Effect, and so why am I not surprised when someone in the news media explodes with outrage followed by inaccurate, alarmist claptrap?
According to this article:
A new, best-selling video game, Mass Effect, made for the Microsoft Xbox 360 console, allows the characters to engage in explicitly graphic sexual intercourse. Some game experts and pro-family analysts say Mass Effect is marketed to young kids and presents a moral danger to them and that the companies making and marketing the game should be prosecuted.
Now I haven't gotten to that point in the game yet, so I had to go looking online for the scene. Full video is below. "Explicitly graphic sexual intercourse"? Frankly I cant believe how non-graphic it is. I was actually a little disappointed after reading that article.
It's completely PG or maybe PG-13 depending on how you feel about lesbians. Yes, there's a heterosexual scene too if you play a male character, it's totally identical shot for shot expect your partner is a human woman.
This scene is what people "should be prosecuted" for? Are you kidding me? You want to send people to jail for that scene? The "experts" go on:
There are cultural implications for feeding porn to kids in this way, [and] when you do this, you're teaching them a distorted lesson about human sexuality and human dignity.
Wow, if she thinks this is porn she needs to see the hard drives of every teenage boy in America.
Mass Effect doesn't do that and even goes so far as to allow homosexuality to be on par with heterosexuality and heterosexuality outside of its proper context of marriage.
And what century is this guy from?
I don't know if people are really aware about what's in this game, but [the people who made it] should lose a lot of money, and they should lose consumer confidence, because this is a stupid move.
Sorry ignorant expert. Best seller. The reporter even mentioned that in the very first sentence.
Anyway, I know you skipped over all those boring words and came straight down here to see the clip, so I'll shut up now.
