Out of the Compound: GR @ E3: Nintendowners

The countdown continues this week as we're... oh my God... 16 days until E3 2011!! That seems like an extremely small period of time here in videogameworld. Yes, I live in videogameworld. Everyone thinks I'm delusional, but won't you join me? It's wonderful here. This week, invitations went out for Into the Pixel, the annual art exhibit at E3. I'll probably stop by to gnash and act like I hate Roger Ebert with the rest of the snobs. Don't get me wrong, art is beautiful: haven't you seen the art in Portal 2? Still, I think an interview with Hideo Kojima might tear me away from the beauty at the gallery on the Tuesday of E3.

If you've been outside of videogameworld for the past week, have no fear! Out of the Compound is here to wrap everything up nicely so you can be an asshole and act like you know everything tomorrow morning at work. Ah, to be a know-it-all. You're so lucky!

Nintendo's latest handheld, the 3DS, isn't doing so hot. (Neither is the Nintendo Wii.) In the portable's second month on the market, sales are down. You know, I'm beginning to think that glasses-free 3D isn't going to do the trick. We better see some damn games at E3!

The PlayStation Network is back online and you can play multiplayer and more, but the PlayStation Store remains closed. Sony detailed the games that you'll be able to download for free as restitution, but we'll be eager to see what they've got going on at E3 to put this nasty identity-theft business behind them.

In Mass Effect, men, women, aliens, they get it on! Let's get nasty! Mass Effect 3 will allow gay and lesbian interactions, but gamers will have to wait until E3 to see who Commander Shepherd's leading ladies and lads will be.

Ubisoft wants to hit the big screen with their biggest franchises. I could have sworn that the French developer/publisher has an E3 press conference every year just dying for some awkward non-announcements.

Namco Bandai has confirmed that there'll be 46 different characters to face off with in Tekken Tag Tournament 2. You know, I just realized that that number is divisible by two! Hopefully the game will be on hand at E3 so we can give you the low down about who is showing up in the latest Tekken fighter.

Batman will get a lead in before Arkham City in the form of Gotham City Impostors, a download-only First Person Shooter. That's right. An FPS in the Batman universe. We'll get hands-on at E3 2011.

We all love Portal 2, but you're probably just as eager as I am to hear about more Half-Life. Luckily, Valve reassured us that they'd be in full force at E3 with a ton of new games... Noooottttttttt.

The Xperia Play hits the Verizon network on May 26th. You'll be able to play tons of classic PSX games for $200 (after signing a two-year contract). You can be that Sony will be pushing the PlayStation Certified label to 11 at E3.

Soul Calibur V got a small update over the past week with roster figures and some character artwork. As much as I love hand-drawn concept art, I'll wait to see the game in action before letting loose my excitement. Will SC V be at E3?

WB Games is looking to make Batman: Arkham City its crown jewel of 2011, and that's after Mortal Kombat's well received release earlier this year! That means recent tidbits like 40 hours of content and new villains are mere drops in the storm of content we'll see at E3 2011.

Sony's got to want to get a slice of that nifty Augmented Reality tech that Nintendo's been getting buzz off of. That's why we'll be eager to see if they've got any more of the stuff up their sleeves at E3 2011.

It seems like Square Enix is bringing back a handful of Eidos titles, including a new Carmageddon and a new Legacy of Kain game. If people are abuzz about Deus Ex, why can't the ailing Japanese publisher bank on a few more long-forgotten Western games?

Bioware isn't holding back on their plans for Dragon Age III. While a spot in the EA booth at E3 2011 might be a little premature, don't underestimate Electronic Arts and their desire to compete with rival publishers like Activision.

The Gears of War 3 Multiplayer Beta is over, so Epic Games and Microsoft need to start pushing gamers who haven't preordered yet. They seem to be going about it the wrong way, if the absurdity of an emotional linebacker-looking soldier goes the way it did in Gears of War 2.

The next Nintendo console is rumored to have a camera built into the controller. Let the hype train roll right into E3 2011, Nintendo. Let it roll!

A new Alan Wake title has been confirmed and is rumored to be on its way to Xbox Live Arcade. If Microsoft is hard pressed for games during their press conference, you can bet that they'll roll out the follow up to Remedy's critical darling.

With weeks to go until the Electronic Entertainment Expo, you can bet that more leaks will spring. I think Nintendo will announce new games but for release later this year or into next. It seems to be more common now for game companies to release a new handheld or console and build up on the hype, making a quick buck off the people who buy into hype while they make them wait for the games they know they want to get.
