PS3 CoD:Black Ops Buyers Want their Money Back

Posted on Wednesday, November 24 @ 15:49:38 Eastern by Blake_Morse
A petition calling for the full refund of PS3 copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops is making the rounds on the interwebs today, because some folks just don't understand what "caveat emptor" mean.

"Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was released on Xbox 360 & Playstation 3 console last year and looked identical to one another. There weren't that many differences and gamers got what they paid for. There should be no reason why BO should have been any different. They advertised a game that fans have come to love and in the end, for their latest release, the Playstation 3 got the short end of the stick. They sold us this degenerate version of BO at the same price as Xbox 360 version."

"With that being said, is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 had the same amount of development time? Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when the previous version (Modern Warfare 2) was equal on both systems but the updated version (BO) is not? Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when the previous version (Modern Warfare 2 on PS3) looked visually better than BO looks now on PS3?"

It seems like somebody's more than a little butt hurt here. True, some of his complaints may be valid and the 360 could be the superior version here, but the fact remains that as a consumer you are responsible for being well informed about the purchases you make. I'm not saying that's an excuse for Treyarch to make a shitty product, but if you choose to pay money for it, that's your choice. Maybe that's cold hearted of me, but life is harsh and you gotta be tough to get through it.

And after following this link on the petition page, I'm half-convinced that this is nothing more than a gimmick to drive up trade-ins at GameStop. Because nothing is more suspicious than a gamer recommending GameStop's trade-in program.

At any rate, the petition has about 1,450 signatures at the moment and that number is just going to increase as PS3 fanboys come forward to express their 360 penis envy.

The day that anyone takes an online petition seriously is the day I leave the internet forever.

And in the end, everyone else pirated the game on PC... No complaints from them yet!

Oh "Wah wah way." Blake is right about caveat emptor. If it's a multi-console game, it don't have to be "exactly" identical. I'm sure there was a difference toward graphics for CoD: MW2 ;^) Anyhow this is what I just did.

If ps3 owners think they've had a rough time, try playing the PC version. If ANYONE deserves refund for inferior product, it's the PC users.

Bahahaha this reminds me of when a bunch of people payed for the pre-alpha version of Minecraft, and then started crying and demanding refunds because it wasn't finished.

Maybe Wii owners should start a petition to get a refund on pretty much every game for the system.

Funny how the PS3 version of Red Dead Redemption had a lower resolution than the 360, yet I never saw a petition for it.

    Huh.

Blake, "fact remains that as a consumer you are responsible for being well informed about the purchases you make" is a nonsense argument when something is marketed the way that this was. Expecting a Chevy to be the same a Porsche wouldn't make much sense, but people know that the difference between the two is huge. In the case of PS3 and Xbox, the games are expected to be the same, even more so when they are marketed as the same. PS3 owners got f.u.c.k.e.d on this one. Why should I have to research whether or not an Xbox version of a game is better than the PS3 version? That's retarded. Or something, I dunno.

To lien: we have had huge complaints over lag issues and downright unplayablity. but we aren't consoletards. We waited for a patch. And, as always, the PC version looks the best :P

Of course, looks aren't everything, tricks count for more.

@dcig311: It's pretty common for the ps3 to get the short end of the stick graphic-wise when it comes to multiplat games, so I don't know what you're surprised about.

    @Will: Agreed.

As a PS3 owner, I've been hearing about my system's "hardware superiority" for quite some time and seeing some games look great in comparison and others...not so much. In the end, they are two different programming systems, if they were the same it'd be different.

    These are the breaks, friendo.

@Eyebrows: Did they release a patch to fix some of the issues with the PC version? I've been hesitant about buying it because of some of the playability issues I've read about.

I failed to understand what exactly wrong with the ps3 version. Can anyone link me up (preferably via PM)?
And btw, I used the PC version, and it completely rocked.

PC version did get a patch that helped a little. My biggest problem is no party system. If you want to play with your friends, prepare yourself for a tedious experience.

Um, yeah, as someone who is out of the loop on this one, what exactly was wrong with the PS3 version? Could someone give me the short version here?

@dcig311: It is ALWAYS the job of the consumer to be aware of what they are purchasing. If you are expecting the two games to be the same, then you are assuming something that has not ever been said, and that's a fault of your own. Marketing is what? It's designed to make you BUY the product! There's a difference between being truthful, and telling the WHOLE truth, and marketing is very good at demonstrating that difference. If marketing is saying "Black ops is a Bad-ass game, and it's a MUST have for PS3 or Xbox 360!" what about that is lying?

@ everyone who commented on my comment: I miss morals. Whatever happened to them? It's true, marketing is marketing. I have made a living in marketing, but in the world of video games, I think it's crap that my $60.00 means nothing more to the developers than $60.00. I guess I'm a bit naive with this industry. I was under the impression that game developers viewed their products as art, and as artists, took pride in what they put out, regardless of platform. Lesson learned.

mr blake morse, sorry 4 beeing harse too, but is ur job to inform us about quality of videogames. the only research we can do is reading reviews from sites like yours, and every site gave the same critic for both xbox and ps3 versions. you should inform us better and not trying to give blame to consumers, its ur fault.
