After all these years, and growing up with Windows 3.1, I have seen an entire evolution of computers and software. Touch screens and large resolutions were a pipe dream just 15 years ago. Now it's the norm. Going from a Packard Bell (yes, before HP) that couldn't run 3D Ultra Mini...

PS3 First Impressions

Posted on Friday, November 17 @ 19:35:18 PST by Duke_Ferris
I can tell from all the crazy news stories that many of you who wanted a PS3 did not get one. With all the lines, robberies, shortages, pepper spray, fights, and some asshat smashing one just to be a dick, you were probably better off staying at home. I've played with them before, but today is the first time I've had one of my own to hook up and play with. So I thought I'd share my thoughts.

- The PS3 is surprisingly big and heavy when you're actually trying to make it fit in an entertainment center, but this because the power supply is internal, unlike the 360. You could seriously use it as a weapon.

- The Sixaxis controller is surprisingly light, with its tiny cellphone battery and lack of metal weights and magnets for vibration.

- I guess it was already in the news, but I missed it and was surprised to find that like the Wii, the PS3 only comes with composite hookups, which guarantees the worst picture possible. No s-video, no component, and no HDMI. Time to go back to the store.

- None of the graphics I've seen yet are visually any better than the 360. If it comes down to graphics, it's going to be a close race.

- It comes with the Blu-Ray version of Talledega Nights, but until I get an HDMI cable tonight, I can't tell you if that's any better looking.

My Resistance: Fall of Man review should be going up now. More reviews next week for both the PS3 and the Wii!
