Resident Evil 6 Uses Regenerating Health And Isn't Scary

Posted on Tuesday, July 3 @ 16:48:23 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

Finding out that there was a Resident Evil 6 demo released today made me more excited than I've been for almost any preview build in the past couple years. That was until I played it, anyway.

After playing the demo for a few minutes I couldn't help but notice that it felt an awful like Call of Duty. It wasn't necessarily the focus on action or the massive, non-stop explosions, either. It had a lot more to do with the regenerating health that I found myself abusing. That's right, Resident Evil 6 features health regeneration that essentially encourages you to camp behind cover before engaging each new pack of enemies. On the plus side, it's a good opportunity to grab a handful of Chex Mix.

Is it really survival horror? I am yet to see anything genuinely scary in Resident Evil 6, and you'd think the realistic graphics would offer up one heck of an chance for scares.

For the record, I have been extremely disappointed in survival horror lately with only Amnesia: The Dark Descent and the Dead Space series to lean to. Where's the Resident Evil that I grew up on? Oh, and don't even get me started with Silent Hill.

Sorry Capcom, this might be a really good action game but it certainly isn't survival horror.

Alan Wake had its moments, aside from the atmosphere breaking 'boss' battles.

People are still whining about Resident Evil not being scary? How long has it been...?

and yes, Call of Duty invented regenerating health.

It's more like half not being "unknown scary" (the type where you don't know what kind of monsters will be around [not the jump scare]) and the other half being people who don't like how the more recent RE games throw big ass guns and other supplies at every other turn and makes you a one man army.

Heads up, this regenerating lifebar, It only regenerate one of 6-8 segments so even if you get your ass kicked by a boss you won't be completely screwed. Get off the like Call Of Duty bandwagon, it has explosions get over it. Resident Evil 1-3 was scary just like Jaws was scary in theaters back in the day. Things have changed. Could you honestly go back and play those games and be scared? No because the are old and dated. Most of these games were scary because they were a new concept and gamers weren't as *****y as they are now.

I really enjoyed the demo it covers a lot of what makes Resident Evil fun. Leon was battling classic RE zombies (nice), Chris was fighting some really cool mutated humans (nice) and Sherry Birkin (from re2) was battling some new mechanical tyrant.

Jaws is still terrifying to a lot of people (not me though because I'm a tough manly man and I'd punch that ***** in the nose)

RE4 was terrifying. And RE5...oh god.

    Ohwait.

The series is no longer horror. I don't know why this is surprising you.

Also, the atmosphere in the earlier stuff for Leon's level wasn't bad. Not Amnesia of course, but not bad.

I created this account just to say this.

    F*CK YOU CAPCOM.

    Seriously.

I put up with RE5 but to hell with this game.
