Sony To Hold NGP Lecture at GDC

Posted on Wednesday, February 23 @ 16:02:11 Eastern by

With GDC 2011 less than a week away, Sony has put forth its first public lecture on its Next Generation Portable handheld to be held on Thursday at 3:00pm.

The session will unveil the handheld's PhyreEngine, "the latest version of the popular and free engine by SCEEs R&D team". As a presentation in the programming track at GDC, it will be heavy on technical jargon about SPU-based rendering techniques and performance optimization, but for us regular folk, it will also show a new game demo and provide a look into how powerful the handheld actually is.

The description is simple: "In this presentation we will introduce a new handheld console. We will talk about the devices broad range of input and connectivity options and how these create exciting new opportunities for game designers." Yes, exciting indeed.
