DAILY MANIFESTO

Southward Bound

Well, It's that time of year again, and I'm off to E3 in Santa Monica, California. My twelfth one, and this year they promise it will be different. I'm not so sure.

A lot of it seems the same to me. All the big players are there, showing off their stuff, nobody is really missing from the "smaller" E3.

I'm one of the official "Best of E3" judges again this year, so that's the same. I still have appointments booked all day long with all the game companies, only now I have to take a taxi from one to another. Tons of big parties every night.

I still have to go to a lot of boring press conferences, and then go back to the hotel and write about them. I know, I know - nobody feels sorry for me.

I guess the big difference is security, and this year's show is invite only. No fanboys clogging the aisles trying to get free T-shits. No appearances by Paris Hilton harshing my mellow. Lots of different security badges to attend different functions. Badges? I don't need no stinkin' badges.

Oh, and the booth babes. I hear they're completely gone now.
