Street Fighter Wusses Out Against Mortal Kombat

Posted on Friday, August 5 @ 08:24:26 Eastern by

The Street Fighter gang has faced off against almost everyone, from Marvel to SNK, and next they're taking on Namco's Tekken characters in a fight to the finish. But not a fight to the death. See, they're too afraid of death. Which is why they're too scared to go up against Mortal Kombat.

Street Fighter Producer, Yoshinori Ono, was asked about a possible Street Fighter Vs. Mortal Kombat, to which he replied:

I actually get a lot of requests for Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat on my Twitter feed and elsewhere. I understand why people want it, but it’s easier said than done. Having Chun Li getting her spine ripped out, or Ryu’s head bouncing off the floor….it doesn’t necessarily match.

Ono-san, obviously fearing for the lives of his beloved creations, quickly changed the subject to other franchises:

But I’ve had a couple of dream projects in my head for a while, one being Street Fighter X Tekken, which is actually coming true. Another would be a Marvel vs DC game which would be pretty damned cool if we could ever pull it off. I’m a big comic-book fan.

DC was more than happy to square off against Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat was even happy to tone it down and play nice with DC. Why are you so afraid, Street Fighter? And what does this have to say about Marvel? It's like Street Fighter was still mad about Mortal Kombat bullying it around and decided to pick on Marvel which was minding its own business making blockbuster movies. Meanwhile, DC was all like "hey MK, wanna fight about it?", to which MK said "Get over here!"

The end.

I suggested that to my brother not too long ago. A SF vs MK would be awesome. I don't think it'd be to much for them to take 8-10 from each roster, and assign some fatalities to the Street Fighter characters. Think...Guile could Sonic Boom someones head off.

Or Flash Kick someone's head off. Or Ryu could Dragon Uppercut someone's head off. The possibilities are endless. ENDLESS

It's true that DC faced off with MK, but they didn't want to die either. I do see what he means. I don't think it would match either, whereas Tekken is more in line with Street Fighter's deal.

If this does happen, I would like to see a Street Fighter X Mortal Kombat as well as a Mortal Kombat X Street Fighter.

I like that Marvel vs DC idea. Been wanting that for years. I don't think its so much getting Marvel and DC to work together on something, but rather getting their PARENT companies to get along. Marvel and DC HAVE collaborated numerous times, but if I recall, Disney and Warner have only worked together ONCE, and that was in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?". It's in the realm of possibility, but highly unlikely.

But it would be awesome to see all the potential matchups. Batman vs. the Punisher, Superman vs. Hulk. Penguin vs. Kingpin, aw yeah.

And throw in some Amalgam characters for extra fun.
