Super Mario Bros. Beaten with Only 600 Points

Posted on Thursday, July 14 @ 15:13:55 Eastern by Josh_Laddin
I've seen a lot of Mario vids in my time: angry vids, evil vids, awesome vids... and yet just when you think you've seen everything, someone comes along and does something you just never thought of before.

Like this guy, who used no save states (he claims) to make his way through the entirety of Super Mario Bros. on one life, getting the low, low score of 600 points. Just watching this low score run made me cringe at the difficulty of it. I mean look at all those coins he has to dodge! And that one jump where he has to bounce off the falling goomba is a thing of beauty.

If only that power could be used for good.

Also, he should take up golf.

I was about to call BS on how he got to the second warp zone, but he sort of explains it below the video on YouTube. "In 4-2, I backwards jump into a few obstacles to scroll the screen without Mario to trick the pipe into taking me to the vine's usual location."

I don't understand. What's backwards jumping accomplish? I noticed him doing it throughout the run.

is it just me, or does it seem like he can jump extremely high? he jumps over every pipe, even with the pirana plant fully extended.
