Tell GR: Nominate Your Community Choice Game Of The Year For 2012

Posted on Tuesday, November 27 @ 17:29:19 Eastern by

As 2012 draws to a close, our annual Game of the Year awards will be revealed. Will the heavy hitters lose out to indie darlings? Can Mass Effect 3 end the year on a good note? Is it even possible to remember every amazing game?

My money is on "no" to all of those questions, and more! Still, to combat our oversight, we're giving the community power once again. You can choose the winner of our Community Choice Award, but first we need some nominations. Submit your picks for Game of the Year below. The highest rated nominations will make it into our 16-man bracket. We'll blow through the early rounds and commence voting on the final battle the day awards week begins.

The forums are in on this as well, so you have two opportunities to nominate and vote. To take advantage of both, submit a vote in the comments and in the Community Choice thread.

Nominate!

Gaaaah, I haven't finished Dishonored yet dammit. I have to give my nod to Assassin's Creed 3. Borderlands 2 and Mass Effect 3 are awesome, but Assassin's Creed just rocked my socks.

One nomination for Dishonored: A full-featured First Person Action game with mechanics that allow exploration and experimentation, genuinely free-form level solutions, and just the right amount of customization and upgrading to keep things fresh without ever being a chore.

Yeah, except it's boring as heck and the AI makes me want to go back to playing Syphon Filter.

I think it deserves to be nominated, but yeah I won't be voting for it either.

You are nuts. The AI is deterministic, which is perfect for a game with stealth elements. If I wanted my AI to consult a playbook every time they turned a corner, I'd play an RTS.

I look forward to crushing your misguided notions on the open field of battle. Select your champion, you scabrous cur!

I second your Guild Wars 2 nomination, and add Natural Selection 2 to the list.

NS2 doesn't have a huge following, but it should - a true diamond in the rough.

Journey! Best art direction in years, and art direction > graphics. I finally played it last week and it's incredible. Everyone should play it, if you don't have a PS3 make friends with somebody who does. Plus Thatgamecompany deserves it, they put a lot of love into their games and it shows.

I second LawnGnome with XCOM because it is destroying my life right now. Another that I vote for that isn't out yet is Far Cry 3, it has GOTY written all over it in the previews alone.

Borderlands 2, but only because 2012 wasn't my favorite year of video games. I know many will disagree but IMO most of 2012 sucked.

I gotta back this up. I played pretty much every AAA game this year, and I played, and loved, Journey, but the Walking Dead is hands down the best gaming experience of 2012.

What's with all the ACIII love? It looks pretty, and it's fun to play, but the Desmond story arch and the ending are atrocious. Not to mention the absurd amount of bugs...

Halo 4 would be my pick. I wouldn't mind if Borderlands 2 won, but I've seen quite a few glitches while playing.

I havnt played a ton of this years games but i think XCOM is one of best and most original turn based strategy games ever made, so it would probably get my vote. I also wasn't bothered by the end of ME3 and found the overall game to be fantastic, so that's my backup vote.

Hotline Miami, loved it when I first played it, still loving it the second time round. It's like John Woo and Tarantino had an amphetamine fuelled babymaking session whilst visiting a Russ Meyer/John Waters/David Lynch set in the 80's. Whats not to love?

HALO 4!!! (great story, amazing graphics & sound, fun & addictive MP w/ lots of unlocks) i havent had a chance to play any of these amazing looking games yet: dishonored, AC3, ME3, the walking dead but im sure they all deserve a nomination!

Civilization 5: Gods and Kings - the amount it changed the game while still holding the core is great, and the AI improvements here and the recent fall patch help a ton.
Guild Wars 2: Taking advantage of the large scale of MMO's to deliver an exploration game on a scope I've never seen, and with no monthly charge.

I forgot about G+K, I agree that it adds and tweaks so much I could never go back to Vanilla. Civ V in general tho is up there with Xcom EU and HoMM 3 as one of the best TBS games ever.

For me it would have to be Ghost Recon Future Soldier. Although the multiplayer lacked somewhat, I found the campaign to be one of the best (well for a shooter anyway) that I have played in a long time. Plus the gunsmith feature was great fun.

Oh, right. I forgot that came out this year.

I rented it once, and to be honest I found it quite enjoyable. So, I'm going to put my Front Page vote for this, and leave my Forum vote for Retro City Rampage.

The Walking Dead will change your life, still waiting for the mass effect trilogy on ps3 Time to see what all the fuss is about. Too many over hyped, underwhelming big budget games.

ehhhhh maybe this is asking for trouble but my vote goes for Hitman: Absolution.
I really haven't played many other games this year (and I really have just scratched the surface of Absolution) but so far I think Hitman is incredible.

Blah, probably too late now, but I literally just finished playing Spec Ops: The Line, and wanted to throw that into the pool. While the gameplay itself may not be top tier, the story is something to behold. Amazing game that leaves you thinking.
