Tell GR: The Simpsons Or Futurama?

Posted on Wednesday, August 1 @ 17:43:49 Eastern by

So what'll it be? Matt Groening's creations, with their overbites and bulging round eyes, have been entertaining us for decades. It's time to kill one and celebrate the other.

Whether we're talking about eyePhones or Monorails, Fry or Lisa, Hermes Conrad or Otto Mann, it's time to decide. If you've got a favorite episode that secures victory for one or the other, be sure to share that with us too. It's time to decide...

The original 4 seasons of Futurama, since other than The Simpsons Movie, it's what I've watched the most.

Simpsons, before season 18, and I guess some episodes after that point. Hilarious.

But the Futurama movies were fantastic. Bender's Big Score was extremely funny.

Simpsons because it's so expansive. There is literally so few items that they haven't touched on and it's chock full of some of the best moments in animated TV.

I've always liked Futurama, but it's so narrow in it's scope of interpreting the world through the lens of sci-fi. That being said, nerds do love fan service.

If I had to choose right now - Futurama.

But compare the entirety of Futurama vs The Simpsons season 2-9 and I think The Simpsons would win hands down. The problem is, after season 9 the quality really began to sink. They felt too much pressure from the popularity of family guy and really became an entirely different show. Homer lost his relatablitity, the show became less heartfelt, and it no longer became quotable in public. Sure it's still "popular" but it's culturally irrelevant.

Futurama may also be culturally irrelevant, but today it's more enjoyable than The Simpsons are.

Pretty much this. I would put the first 300 episodes, give or take, of The Simpsons up against any tv show for best of all time. But the recent years drag it down so much that if you're viewing complete bodies of work I will give Futurama the nod as of today.

I agree as well. The Simpsons was among the best animated shows of all time until Season 10 or so (maybe started going off the rails even a bit earlier). But at this point more than 50% of the series is unwatchable. Futurama is a far better series now.

One of the funniest things I remember from The Simpsons was something so slight, yet so ridiculous, that I remember it above every other Simpsons moment: in the episode where Marge opens a pretzel business and hires the mob for protection, things spiral out of control, and the family comes home to find Homer knocked out, a note pinned to his head with a thumb tack. To read the note, Bart pulls the thumb tack out, removes the note, and then sticks the thumb tack back in Homer's head.

For some reason, that was the funniest little detail I can remember watching in any show or movie, ever. It still makes me giggle a little bit.

Both are exceptional, but Simpsons should win because you can say there wouldn't be Futurama without Simpsons. BUT... if those are the only two shows playing for twenty-four hours, which would I watch? Futurama

wow... this is a tough choice!
i grew up with Simpsons and have always enjoyed the show...
but in the last year, i have watched a lot more futurama...

so if its all time id have to pick simpsons... but, as far as which one i see my self watching more, its fururama... it's just more entertaining...

the show that needs to die is the retarded & overrated family guy!!!

ill take futurama & beavis & butthead & some south park over that crap any day!
