Tell GR: What Is Your Gaming Shame?

Posted on Tuesday, December 4 @ 16:45:00 Eastern by

I've already said on the podcast that I've never beaten a Metal Gear Solid game. I've also never beaten a God of War title. Most of my shameful inexperience comes from the fact that I didn't own a PlayStation console until the PS3. The same can be said of my short-comings in PC gaming experience.

Still, you guys know enough about me and the staff at GameRevolution. It's time to reveal your own dark video game secrets. Do you have a copy of the Playboy Mansion game on your shelf? Is your PSP always equipped with Dead or Alive Paradise?

What are your darkest gaming secrets?

Wow I thought I was the only one and was going to get yelled at for it but apparently I'm not the only one! I got lost in the fire temple in OOT and never bothered to finish it. Waiting till I get a 3ds xl for my redemption.

The game will look amazing on the XL, and you can't really be blamed for getting lost. The water temple is excuse enough to put the game down and never finish.

Twilight Princess was the first major Zelda game I ever played. Everyone always shames me for it. I have never played WoW (not really ashamed of that) I had never beaten and MGS game until MGS4.

Strange that I couldn't get into any other MGS until 4. It was a masterpiece and I gave it a 9.5/10 on my site. It was one of the reasons why I wanted a PS3.

I've never actually played Ocarina of Time, or played all the way through Mario 64 (I have beaten Wind Waker and earlier Zelda games, including the GB Link titles, though). Also, I've never made it all the way through a Final Fantasy game. And my most shameful secret, considering my love for the series, is that even though I beat MGS 4 twice, I never had the patience to sit all the way through the ending. Both times, I beat it after a long stretch and just didn't want to sit any longer.

But now I'm going to go YouTube it!

I bought Super Mario Galaxy 2, played it once, never played it again (I loved the first one, but the second one felt exactly the same).

I bought LEGO Batman 2, played it a few times in a week, never played it again.

I never finished Red Dead Redemption.

I played WoW for only two weeks, but lost interest once I left the big giant tree place (Nightelf). The point is, I played WoW.

I bought a copy of Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii, played it once, haven't played it since.

And my biggest, sort of unrelated gaming shame - I got myself killed in ZombiU because I tried to throw a grenade in a room with zombies, the grenade bounced off a wall and landed back at my feet.

    Omg. Where do I begin?

I have never beaten super Mario bros. Actually Mario bros. 2 is my favorite of the whole Mario series.

I can't play a Zelda game for more than 10 min.
Ive played a lot of WoW, my first character being on an RP server.
I think Gears of War is incredibly over rated (I have no friends to play coop anything)
I've played through FF7 three times up to the final sephiroth battle and didn't continue.
I've rubbed one out to the scene in Gods of War where kratos is sleeping with the two chicks on the ship. Boobies!
    I can keep going...

I actually enjoyed Dante's inferno and i recently finished the game again a couple of months ago and i am still hoping for a sequel. To my defense, i never played a god of war game till after i finished dante.

I've also never played Shadow of the Colosses and Ico. I might get to it eventually, but for right now, my other gaming shame is taking precedence. That one being the number of games I own on Steam that I haven't played is larger than the number of them that I have. Those damn sales make it too easy to buy games that I never get around to even installing, much less playing.

I don't own any current gen consoles other than a decent PC and a Wii. So I've never played any of the console games like RDR, Halo, Gears of War, and God of War. Never will either.

Never played any modern FPS games other than COD4.

I have 700+ hours played on one character on my World of Warcraft account.

Me and a friend share steam accounts. Is it legal? Probably not. But is it any different than letting a friend borrow your game?

I've never finished the original Doom legitimately without cheating.

I've played GTA IV but I thought it was boring and San Andreas was better. I love riding the motorcycle through a lone desert highway. Can't wait for GTA V.

    I still buy PS2 games.

I played all the Sims games and enjoyed them a lot even though my sister's character kissed my character much to my horror.

Secretly I yearn to be British, so I brought Napoleonic Wars, joined a British regiment, and blast the British Grenadier Marching music while playing.

    What else...

I haven't logged into WoW in over two years, but last time I did my main alone had 900+ hours logged. That's not even counting my second main after I "semi-retired" the first one about six months prior, and the two alts I played nearly as often as well. If I had to estimate, I'd say I have around 2,000 cumulative hours logged over the course of about four years of play between half a dozen or so different characters. Again, I'm not ashamed. I regret nothing.

    Wow. Haha, get it? Pun...

Anyway, that's pretty hardcore. I don't think I have the attention span to log that many hours on one game. It's why I never 80'd my main in Guild Wars 2.

It's funny too, when I calculated how much I spent on the monthly fees for the game over the course of four years. It turned out to be $720 USD. But to tell the truth I really don't regret about the money part.

I own Steel Battalion w/huge controller and never finished it. I preordered Duke Nukem Forever and finished it. Over 75 percent of all the games I own are unfinished and many of those have not been played at all.

I've owned most Nintendo systems but the only games I have played with Mario in them are MarioKart and Super Smash Brothers.

    I owned E.T. Extraterrestrial for Atari 2600.
I own copy of Doom or Doom II on every console that its been available.

Back when I played FFXI, I didn't have that many mules, but my play time was was up there with his. It's probably for the best that SE completely ruined everything I liked about the game. I have so much more time on my hands now that I don't play an MMO anymore. As to FFXIV, I haven't played it at all yet, but I'm curious to see how the reboot works out.

My gaming shame? I've seriously thought about selling all of my gaming electronics and focusing on bodybuilding (I've been lifting for a long time but haven't made the dedication for the BB lifestyle yet) I have to sit down and force myself to play videogames otherwise I will never play them, I also don't have any issues stopping playing (like losing sleep, almost being late to work, etc) like I used too.

I've been reading alot lately too. Maybe I'm growing out of gaming?

Oh, also when I played EQ a long time ago, I logged over 100 days (2400 hours+) on my main toon. Sure, some of it was AFK but I also had a couple alts and such. That game consumed my pre-high school years and nearly 2 summers.

After waiting a couple of months after the console release I thought that it wasn't going to be all that buggy. First of all It's capped at 60 fps and little things like it still having the right bumper for a grenade on the hud, but those are not all that uncommon for ports. Also it's max resolution is 720 which is fine on a tv, but since I have a 1080p monitor about 2 feet from my face it looked really stretched. Plus the multiplayer has been broken since day one and it's a shame because the horde mode thing looked fun and it seemed like a good mix of call of duty's arcade action paired with ghost recon's tactical feel. The campaign was pretty fun too besides the whole mech thing. I haven't tried to play it in a while. So those could all have been patched, but I bet there's not much of an online community left/. Thankfully I have Battlefield 3 and No More Room In Hell to hold me over.

I hate to admit it, but I've gone out of my way to purchase The Sims 1,2 and 3 (and even some of the expansions) and LOVE them. Originally it was to get my gf at the time into video games (totally worked by the way) but I think I ended up spending even more time with it.

Also, big PS3 fanboy and have NEVER even touched Uncharted

I can't stand fighting games, or adventure/action fighting games, even though I own GoW 1 and 2, God Hand, DMC 3 Special Edition (I think it's called), and Bayonetta. Of them, GoW 1 is the only one I beat, and God Hand is the only other one I played past the first level.

Also I try to keep the box for Bayonetta out of sight.

I never beat a Final Fantasy game, despite playing a bit of 1,3(6),7,8,9,10,12,and 13. Personally, I think 9 was the most interesting one I played.

Not really shameful, but the first and only time I rage-quit a game permanently was after about two minutes of playing Superman 64 as a child.

I feel great shame whenever i complete resident evil 2 these days and dont unlock a special item at the end...

I was excited for the day one announcement of sony all stars

    I dig dantes new look

Im a huge fan Of DLC and i dont care how held back the content is or if its on disc and locked...

Never Owned a Nintendo console.... EVER.... (Not due to hate mind you)

But my biggest shame is my ability to hold certain games with such high regard i will refuse to see the greatness in any others I wouldn't play star ocean or any other RPG because it wouldn't be as good as FF7 was I wouldn't give Dantes Inferno a chance why it wasn't God of war.... I am so bad for this, when I think of all the games ive missed in the past due to my pigheaded attitude I could slap myself im glad i was able to get out of that hole when i did...... Still my past shames me.....

I have another... Metal Gear Solid is my favorite series ever and (here's the apparent shameful part) my favorite game of all time is MGS2. I loved Raiden, the kookey story, the long cut-scenes and everything else that everyone hated about the game. Basically, any flaws that the game may have had in other people's eyes were pluses in my eyes, so to me the game is somewhat flawless.

I LOVE the Super Mario Bros. movie. The live action one. The one with Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, and Dennis Hopper. The one that was a commercial and critical failure. The one that's horribly cheesy in every conceivable way possible. I absolutely love it. After seeing it I hoped and prayed that they would make a sequel. They didn't and I was crushed.

I've never beaten a Final Fantasy game. Ever. I've wanted to. Of the three STALKER games I've only finished Clear Sky. I've never done all I wanted to do in Ninja Gaiden Black. I've never beaten Mega Man X3. While I generally like first person shooters and they are some of my favorite games, and I like realism and real-world themes, no Call of Duty game after the first one ever did anything for me. I hate the set-up for Spec Ops: The Line's big 'You Bastard' moment so much I'll never pay to play the game. Everyone's going off like a drunk virgin on prom night for the game and I'll never share in the excitement.

    My gaming shames are:

    - I own a lot of Zelda games but I've only beaten the original Zelda, A Link to the Past, Minish Cap and Oracle of Seasons.

    - Own a lot of Mario games but have only beaten Sunshine (my little brother finished them all though... even collected EVERYTHING).

    - Tried a lot of MMORPGs but can't seem to find one that fits me.

    - Bought Oblivion and Skyrim on release day... only played a couple of hours each.

    - Have Nippon Ichi games but also only played them a couple of hours each.

    - Seems like my desire to complete everything in one go puts me away from good games when I see that I have to do multiple playthroughs in order to achieve that... though this seems to be changing. And that’s good because I've missed quite a lot of good titles this way.

And this is something I don't perceive as a shame... more as an interesting observation. As a kid I got hold of Dead or Alive 2 for the PS2 and I think it made me into the big - boob loving guy I am today. :)
