Tell GR: What Was Your First Xbox Experience?
Posted on Thursday, November 17 @ 16:20:39 Eastern by Daniel Bischoff
We've obviously had a lot of fun with the original Xbox and the brand's 10th birthday this week. Anthony, Nick, and I will share our first-Xbox-experience with you on GameRevolution Radio this week, but until then, why not share yours in the comments?
What was your first experience with Microsoft's first home video game console?
The first time I ever touched one was in highschool. We were having an after party for some school event, one kid brought his in. I played less then a round of Halo, sucked ass at it, and that was that for a while. Then I got it for Christmas one year with Morrowind GotY. And so began a love affair, going on its 7th+ year now.
Yuck. The first two "next gen (then)" Madden games were awful. The first Xbox game I played was actually NFL Fever 2002 which was the best football experience on the Xbox for a while.
In 2007 maybe a week or two before Halo 3 release I was active duty. In our off time we drank and played Halo 2. On release night we all bought xbox360's, halo 3 and an XBL sub. Yeah, I was late to the party.
Well I chose PS2 back in that console generation, but I did get to play a Xbox at a firends house. He invited me over for a Halo lan party. I didnt know what Halo or lan meant at the time but I heard party and said sure why not. So I show up and everyone is gathered around the screen and notice a four player split screen, the first time I ever saw that, and what could best be described as giant black hamburgers that everyone was holding. When I picked one up I didn't know whether to place my thumbs on the joysticks or try and take a bite from the thing. I wish I had taken a bite because I sucked at Halo.
Looking back on it now those original Halo maps are my favorite from the entire franchise.
my first (chronologically) favorite moment; week off from school (high school) with a terrible cold and still had to go to work that week. all i did was work, eat, sleep, and halo campaign.
second (chronologically) favorite moment; my friend frequented a card/hobby shop who just recently set up a couple of tv's and xbox's to play some system link Halo C.E He left the place when they started setting it up and went to pick me up. I brought along my trusty ol' hamburger controller (or The Duke as i had heard it be called) and met everyone there for the first time. Him and I destroyed all comers in 2v2 battles. it was great.
Borrowed one from a cousin for a weekend and rented Halo 2 and Fable. Couldn't get Halo to play because it was too scratched so I wound up loving Fable and later bought The Lost Chapters when I got a 360.
First game I played was Halo. Was at a friends house and we were gonna do a starcraft lan but then a few kids had this new system and game and wanted to play that so we did. Was quite a bit of fun since we all sucked.
I had a Dreamcast and my neighbor one weekend started bragging how his older brother was coming home from college for the weekend and bringing his xbox I remember asking "wtf is that?" and when he showed up they invited me to play and they had Halo. I remember just being blown away by the colors of the covenant ship; I got my own within weeks of that and so the addiction began...
I had asked my parents for money for Christmas since they aren't that gaming saavy. Already had a PS2 and Gamecube, so I was looking to complete the holy trinity. I remember I had enough money for just two games, and after carefully going through all of Game Revolution's reviews I finally decided on Knights Of The Old Republic and Morrowind GOTY. I played KOTOR first, and since that first played through probably went through again around 7 times. But the real gem was Morrowind.
My favorite Xbox moment is still the Monday I went through school able to literally HEAR the Morrowind theme in my head because I had spent 90% of the previous weekend just playing it nonstop.
Full Spectrum Warrior. I was lured by the graphics, then the sh*tty gameplay pushed me away. Never did get an Xbox, felt a PS2 and Gamecube were enough.
The original Xbox was the first system that I had reserved before launch. I already had a PS2 and a DC, but damn it, I still wanted one. I was genuinely excited about the launch. Picked it up on launch day, with Halo, PGR and Dead or Alive 3. The Xbox was also the console that made me buy my first HDTV, to experience the glory of Soul Calibur 2 in high def.
I was a playstation fanboy... mostly because of jrpg's (we all went through the phase)... then I rented Halo for the weekend... 2 weeks and a massive $55 late fee later I returned the game and was addicted to the graphics... I named my controller bertha
