Tell GR: What'd You Get for Christmas?

Posted on Monday, December 26 @ 13:41:23 Eastern by

Christmas was yesterday, so that means most of the gifts have been opened and horded like some kind of gold. I had a moderate haul, void of video games (I've already got everything this year had to offer), but with some neat video game-themed odds and ends.

Easily my favorite gift was a Super Mario Chess set complete with Bowser and Mario kings (Thank you, Jenna!). I checked the booklet that came with the set and it does in fact have the Nintendo Seal of Approval! More on that later though...

What did you get for Christmas (or nondenominational celebrated holiday)?

Well, didn't get lumps of coal as you assumed, but I didn't get much anyways considering I'm 20 (21 next coming May 2nd, drink one for me) and considered an adult. All I got this year was a $25 gift card to GameStop and two dollars for me to use on lottery.

I got MW3, a new 360 controller battery pack, all of the seasons of The Office on dvd, Community season 1 & 2, Family Guy vol. 9, Fringe season 3, Sherlock (BBC), all of the Star Wars: Clone Wars dvds, and some gourmet coffee, hot chocolate, and chai mix that my sister got me on her last trip to San Francisco. I mostly asked for dvds this year since I'm having foot surgery again in a month and will be stuck in bed for 6 weeks. My collection got worn out from the last surgery, so these are a much needed addition.

Bought my athletically inclined nephue one of those Razor Bogo brand pogo sticks. Those things are pretty kick ass, I must say. And bought my niece a new electric guitar with amp. I have to say I am a pretty kick ass uncle.

    I got $450
    a computer chair
a new bathrobe with a hood
a copy of And Another Thing... by Eoin Colfer (the 6th Hitchhiker's Guide book, commissioned my Douglas Adams' family to end the series on a less depressing note than Mostly Harmless did)
A copy of Dark Souls from the vast, impenetrable GR compoud (teeeechnically it's a late Haiku Friday prize, but it arrived at my house on Christmas Eve, so it's like a Christmas present).

And on the 21st, my birthday, I got Skyrim.

I got some games (Uncharted 3, MGSHD, SR3, UMvC3, Dead Island), some candy, two of the same t-shirt from two different people in my family (Jesus on a dinosaur, which is fine), shotgun shells from my dad (which is the same thing I got him for Christmas. Whoops.), two of the same license plate frame (luckily my car has room for two), Captain America pants, shirt, movie and comics (I do love me some Cap), and underwear.

Though the best present by far, and the most surprising, was a subscription to Playboy from my dad. And since I'm moving out soon and it'll still come to the house, he called it a "present for both of us" since he "reads it for the articles".

Smart choice! It's going on almost a year since Dead Space 2 was released. I loved playing that game at the time. In January of this year I was working out of a garage while I was trying to find an apartment. It was cold and dark and no one was home so it was silent. The campaign was excellent, even though it got a bit action-y at bits. I loved the game and I really want to play through it again soon.

actually now i'm not too sure it was a good choice. i just spent the last 6 hours straight playing Skyrim. had to stop coz i have work in a few hours. i foresee being late for work and disappoint face from my girlfriend in the near and, quite possibly far, future.

some fresh alien-decapitating-play-alone-in-the-dark would have been fun tho. the first Dead Space is my favourite sci-fi action shooter.
