REVIEWSGRiD 2 Review
Grid 2 surprised me. I was going through the motions, getting used to the cars and their handling, when suddenly something happened. I started having fun.
State of Decay Review
Undead Lab's zombie-infested action title has finally hit XBLA. Is it worth a few of your precious Microsoft Points, or should you whack it over the head with a two-by-four and continue on your merry way?
E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Tell GR: What's Your Favorite Game Soundtrack?
Posted on Thursday, April 12 @ 16:30:00 Eastern by Daniel Bischoff
I'll never forget some of the things I've seen in video games, but I can't imagine the same scenes without the backing track to go with them. I'm a sucker for a great video game soundtrack. Having a terrible score can ruin a game, and having an excellent one can lift a game up to greatness.
So far this year, I've been particularly infatuated with the Dustforce soundtrack, a sample of which you can find here. Mass Effect 3's soundtrack has been excellent as well, but....
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal's soundtrack was amazing & memorable to me. I loved A Crack In Time's music too. Music that went well with the story was great, esepcially getting to listen to tons of music from radio stations while flying a spaceship. Resistance 3 & the Uncharted games have fantastic music as well.
Actually there's one other game that came out around when Bastion did that had a fantastic soundtrack. But given that I can't remember it, I'm saying Bastion.
I always remember liking the original Tomb Raider sounds. The sounds made you feel like you were actually discovering something new for the first time.
Bioshock/Bioshock 2 - 40's on 4 XM anyone?
But really, the game is Jet Set Radio - Controls were difficult but art style and music dominate any to date.
not that i'm really into that style of music, i agree. also the radio on Fallout New Vegas. real good combination: 40's music along side of roaming the post apocalyptic wasteland.
And I agree with GTA radio selections. Many times I got into wrecks changing the station to the one I preferred. I think it was GTA 3: Vice City (?) that introduced me to Young Turks by Rod Stewart.
haha that game is responsible for my short-lived journey into 80's electro pop. Flight of Seagulls, Gary Numan.... then i found grunge n metal. aka good music.
So many to choose from. It kind of feels like a cop-out to pick Bioshock or Fallout, but the music selection really made those games special. If we're talking original score, I'd go with Super Mario Bros. The way the music changed whenever you entered a different level/area or how it sped up when you started running out of time really added a lot to the experience back in the day, plus the music itself is just so iconic. Anyone familiar with videogames would recognize the tune.
So many great Soundtracks, both original and stuff like EA Trax, to name a few (more like a lot): Silent Hill 1, 2 and 3 OST's, The World Ends With You OST, Deathsmiles and Mushihimesama OST's, the FIFA 98, FIFA 2002, FIFA 06 and FIFA World Cup 2006 EA Trax. More recently, my favorites are Catherine's OST, all of the music in Lumines: Electronic Symphony, and Blue Blur, then Sonic Generations OST. If I have to choose an all-time favorite Soundtrack, i'll go with Mega Man 2 soundtrack, the ultimate achievement in 8-bit music, and to me, a major part of unforgettable memories of playing that masterpiece.
Street Sk8er for PSOne. The game kind of sucked, and it had a limited number of tracks, but man did I love skating virtually to Less Than Jake, All, H20 and I Against I. THPS 2 was solid, too. I played for literally hundreds of hours making parks and skating them, and never got sick of the tracks.
The Silent Hill series. By far. I can't believe nobody said this yet. Akira Yamaoka is a musical genius and never lost a bit of it throughout the entire franchise. Until Downpour, when they changed the composer. Who agreed that was a good idea?
Gotta mention Bastion of course. Always have a soft spot for Zelda and Halo music. the ME trilogy also has really epic music. And anything that lets me play my own music.
Almost anything Earthbound, Symphony of the Night, Intro Theme Final Fantasy and the one that immediately popped into my head, considering it was my first RPG, youtube.com/watch?v=gYdSH34z5hg or the battle music
Zelda: Ocarina of Time... it was just too much perfection and balance between beautiful melodies and integrating the music with the gameplay. It was so well implemented and it sounded so damn good, that I've had "Saria's Song" as my ringtone for 10 years. I know, I don't get laid that much... the hookers keep running away from me.
Oblivion and Skyrim. Some of the most beautiful orchestral scores ever made. I listen to them on a regular basis. In fact I wrote a blog about them on my site.
Total Annihilation has the best sound track I've ever heard. Homeworld, Chrono Trigger, and Cross are all up there too. All those sound tracks just blend so well with the game, and they all felt right, but Total Annihilation was exceptional.
Donkey Kong Country was good. Final Fantasy 6 heard that one alot. Ivory_Soul I agree Oblivion and Skyrim. Tetris on the original GameBoy. The Witcher because of the Celtic vibe.
So many good ones. Ocarina of Time and the Castlevanias are popular choices for obvious reasons. I would add Ninja Gaiden II for NES and Lunar for Playstation. Lunar is such an underrated game btw. It's easily up there with FFIII, Chrono Trigger and Tales of Phantasia as one of the greatest RPGs of all time. U.N. Squadron for SNES deserves to be mentioned too.
Modnation Racers, for sure. That soundtrack they had perfectly fit the game, and it was awesome to boot. But, I have to ask, does anyone really know what this dude is saying in this particular track?

I keep hearing "Doubt you get diarrhea", and I know that can't be right.
Sonic 2 Hilltop Zone. Adventures of Dino Riki. Donkey Kong Country. The first Tenchu: Stealth Assassins. Mega Man 2. There's lots more, and I love chiptune music thanks to my 8 bit formative years, but these are what come to mind atm.

My favorite would have to be Final Fantasy 6. Seems like a cop out to use FF, but I've listened way more than any other game soundtrack.

Opening theme to Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Also the Whistle from the original The Legend of Zelda, and the Warp Whistle's tune from Super Mario Bros. 3.

Love the western themes of RDR, and the select songs they use in the game.
