DAILY MANIFESTO

The Download December 6th, 2012

Posted on Thursday, December 6 @ 18:25:00 Eastern by

There's no secret that I'm more excited about one particular iOS release this week, but before I can dive in, I have to clear some room on my memory card. You get 8GBs and you think it's enough, and then BAM! Your full. Then you get a 16GB card, forget where you put the 8GB card and then the next thing you know the 16 GB is full too. When does it end?!

Nintendo eShop

If you've got a fever and the only thing that'll cure it is more FIFA Soccer, then the eShop has you covered this week. Alongside the demo for this year's footsy baller simulation are a handful of 3DS additions.
  • EA Sports FIFA Soccer 13 - Wii U - Demo
  • Fractured Soul - 3DS
  • New Super Mario Bros 2 DLC: Platinum Panic Pack and Coin Challenge Pack C - 3DS
  • Classic Games Overload: Card & Puzzle Edition - 3DS
  • Murder on the Titanic - 3DS
  • Christmas Wonderland 2 - 3DS
  • Crystal Adventure - 3DS
  • Virtual Console: BurgerTime - Wii
Xbox Live Arcade

Only one game lands on Xbox Live Arcade this week, but that doesn't new apps aren't coming along with it!
  • Guardians of Middle-earth - 360 - 1200 MSP ($15)
  • Rhapsody - 360 - FREE
  • Blip.TV - 360 - FREE
OK, that was still a pretty boring update.

PlayStation Network

This week's PlayStation Store Update is once again set upon by the nightmares of the sea. Once again? This is the first time BioShock 2 has gone free to PlayStation Plus Subscribers! Maybe the pressure got to my head.

  • Rockstar Games Collection Edition 1 - PS3 - $59.99
  • Mass Effect - PS3 - $14.99

Steam

Head into the jungle with the superior PC verison of Far Cry 3. Seriously, it's beautiful, but we've lost Anthony in that and Skyrim this week. If you see him can you send him back to us?
  • Karateka - PC - $8.99
  • Afterfall Insanity Extended Edition - PC - $14.99
  • Forge - PC - $19.99
  • Far Cry 3 - PC - $49.99
  • AirBucaneers - PC - $14.99

iOS/Android App of the Week

I'm incredibly excited to play Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition. Even if the digital controls are horrible, it's amazing to me that this experience could possibly follow me around on my phone wherever I go. My 14 year-old self is bursting, Jerry! I'm bursting!

Vice City, for those of you who don't know, centers around Tommy Vercetti and the antics he finds himself in, but perhaps the more important star is the time and place itself. A parody of 1980s Miami as thorough and dedicated as any you'll ever find. Cruise the strip on a PCJ and just let the soundtrack take you back in time.
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - 10th Anniversary Edition - iOS - $4.99

It's Jordan Mechner's (the guy who created the original Prince of Persia) breakout game, released back in 1984. It's supposed to be a fighting game combined with platforming elements. (I have never played the game, so I don't know how it works.)

I read some reviews. It seems to be very boring and repetitive.

I don't know Daniel, I thought the Xbox GTA collection had annoying controls because of the lack of L1/R1, which made it really had to do drive-by shootings. Now imagine trying to do that by sliding your fingers on glass.

Also, "digital controls"? I do not think that means what you think it means. Although it might work in the sense that "digit" refers to fingers, and fingers are what you use to manipulate a touch device.

And one more thing: second to last paragraph you write "I'm incredibly __ to play". Might want to fill that in with "excited", "loath", or "aroused" as applicable.

"which made it really HARD to do drive-by shootings". Foolish me, looks like my inner grammar Nazi needs an inner proofreading Nazi. Also makes two unexpectedly erotic comments.

Yes, excited, but I still mean digital controls. Touch-screen controls? Is that clearer?

Vice city on android or iOS allows you to remap controls and change the size of buttons... You can close the app anytime and it will pick up from where you left off (no need to save ). They also added a retry I you fail a mission and you start off with whatever you had the during your pAst try. Gta 3 didn't have cheats but you never lose your weapons, besides I know where all the hidden items are in that game anyway

If you all like free stuff, EA is being uncharacteristically generous (in a way that costs them absolutely no money). They are giving away all of the bonus promotional stuff for both Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. You can get it for PC, PS3, and 360 (or all three if you want). Go here: http :/ / social.bioware.com/da2/dlc_bundle/ (without the extra spaces) and claim your free stuff. You do have to have an EA account with the DA:O and DA2 registered for it to work though.
